LOTRO free to play going ahead.

Managed to get the account migrated....I THINK!

Now I cant activate my game product keys.....this is a flipping joke of a site :(

Just as a word of warning,I had a lot of trouble transfering my account,it turned out that my new password was too long,so just keep this in mind.

funny how dyin games in complete desperation tryin to hold on to/get new players in, i mean wow i understand, they got loads of users, up till lvl20 is not free, but after that u will get sucked in, thats what they hoping for, lotr on the other hand is a massive fail in my opinion

Their revenue has tripled since going free to play!

But thanks for sharing your well thought out words of wisdom

LoTRO was never a dying game, as Sleepery stated, it's revenue has tripled and it's one of the most populated MMO's around now, you can also do a few areas for free till you have to start paying for quest packs. Also, Rohan is being released this year too, so do some research before you critique a game, because clearly you don't know jack regarding LoTRO.

More than that even, friend of mine went from level 1 to max level without paying a penny of actual cash, he was just careful to only spend points on stuff which was on sale.

I cant stand the 'ZOMG the game is FTP therefore it muct be a fail' type of comments.

You open up the game to a larger market, more people play it, and providing that the cash store prices are affordable the game gets more players wanting the 'log in an play at any time' approach who prefer to pay for things once.

Lotro also had a lifetime sub since day one, which even went down to £75 a few months before the FTP.

10 years time from now, there likely wont be a single fee based game left on the market, if the currently brainwashed consumer base wakes up and realizes how completely unnecessary fees actually are to keep an online game supported.

A+ would read again.

WoW is free until level 20, as is LOTRO and several games are following this trend. Given that since it's inception LOTRO has gained both a larger userbase and revenue stream I'd say it's been a success, especially when you consider that despite the changes made by Blizzard to WoW, they have lost a section of the player base due to Cata and are still losing numbers now (In May they had lost around 600k users in 6 months). Is that a massive fail?

Both games are good games and for the most part, both games are the same game. It's only really the visuals and the combat pace that separates the two in terms of gameplay.

Which is better Dungeons & Dragons Online or LOTR online? Both are free to play. I did download DDO a few months back (inc high res version) but its graphics were a bit poor tbh compared to other mmos? Perhaps i should stick at it to discover its depth? But then if LOTR has depth as well maybe should go for that? Better looking too :D

LOTRO uses an updated version of the DDO engine, so you're going to see similarities :)

It's a lot prettier though, although I always thought DDO has held up very well given its age. LOTRO is strictly from the WoW school of game design, very much a traditional style mmo. There's a lot to it, but you won't find a whole lot of surprises, except perhaps for the legendary weapon system. The environments are generally fantastic though.

DDO is an amazing game, but very different and quite limited in some ways - entirely instanced, quite unforgiving of death, and not really a game to solo beyond the lower levels. As far as character classes go, it's got more depth than just about any other game out there. I've spent weeks and weeks just mucking around with class combinations. The combat is great, and the adventure areas almost always really well crafted. You hit a payment ceiling much sooner than LOTRO though, it's not nearly as generous in its F2P model.

To: Sleepery & Wes
Didnt actually know it was populated or generated any income, reason being i havent heard of it, where is WOW is all over the place, and no i have never played it :D

Hehe probably best not to declare something is a massive fail if you haven't at least heard of (preferably played even) it. :D

The epic questline is also a massive advantage LotRo has over other MMOs that I've played - it's incredibly enjoyable to play through, with some amazing parts now that they've made it accessible for solo play. The legendary item system is great, time-consuming but well worth the effort - really feels like you're carving out your very own weapon, and the skirmishes are fantastic fun either for solo play, two, three or up to 12 people - boatloads of possibility there :). the crafting system leaves a lot to be desired though.

You should give it a go, playing a char through to 15 - 20 or so will give you a good taste of how the game's run. You won't be able to access the premium classes (bad-ass runekeepers and faggoty wardens :p) but getting your Undying title should keep you busy for a while :).

Fantastic MMO, to be honest. If the community hasn't suffered from the US server transfer, Laurelin will still have one of the best environments I've ever seen on a server - the OcUK kinship is on there, look them up. Keep in mind you'll have to pick an RP name, but you won't have to RP in-game if it's not your thing :)

Oh ... wait .... I actually transferred my account to the US servers because I had an Email telling me to and I thought I had to like they did with DDO?

I havnt actually logged in after I did that either :x
