LOTRO free to play going ahead.

This is the reason I got 7 (actually 9 but two were put on hold when my month's subscription ended) character slots. This way I have one character of every class with all their traits / swift travel / gold cap / etc unlocked. As someone else pointed out, the 70 quid I spent means that I am almost as well off as those lucky few who bought a lifetime subscription at that price. As I plan on playing on and off for at least a year (and probably a lot longer), this works out much cheaper than buying a subscription and I will own the content rather than losing access to quest packs when the subscription runs out....

My understanding of what your saying is.....get the subscription, create as many chars as you might want to use and then once the subscription runs out I will still have access to the traits and so on? then just buy the quest packs.

Basically. You actually do need to log-in and play the characters in the realm (even 30 seconds will do) and not just create them, though. As for quest packs I hear that Evendim and Forochel are the only two you need to bridge the content gap between the free content and the Path of the Fellowship packs from ROI. And you could even get away with just Evendim if you are prepared to get a couple of levels from skirmishes.

One last point - unless you purchase extra character slots, you will have 5 available to you while you are subscribing. However, once your subscriptions ends you will have two of these (your choice) put on hold until you buy extra character slots. I would suggest picking the 5 class/race combinations you like the most and logging in to all of them once before the subscription ends.

Thanks Jsbeer, going to sort the subscription out tonight and go from there. I have points left so I can buy them areas after anyway.

Sylv, isnt that on COG? you have to migrate over to Turbine

Turns out I was wrong - the attunement panel option doesn't affect the gambit panel. Is there a way to mount it anywhere, like the attunement panel? Or is it just a matter of moving it about to where it looks least invasive?

I put it above the toolbar slots where you press ctrl, shift or alt, and then the progression bar above the attunement panel.

You can press CTRL-# (or maybe CTRL-/) to unlock the various UI elements so you can move them about. The same command locks the UI again.

I'm pretty sure last time I encountered this it was due to downtime and it worked perfectly the second time round. However, they normally announce clearly when downtime is due.

Anyone encountered this problem and know a way to fix it?

I cant get on the Turbine forums from the office but im sure I did read about this being a known problem. I migrated my account 2 weeks ago and it was done in seconds.

Have a look on the support forum at turbine. Turbine account/forum pages work horrible in most browsers! :<

I've put in a support ticket, but looking over a few forums, some people are having troubles migrating their accounts with unanswered support tickets. Unless I call them (international call) to sort it out. Here's hoping.

Righto never played Lotro, bit bored while waiting for SWTOR so thought I'd give this a crack, now I must say it looks & feels impressive. I'am just unsure on the F2P / Shop content, also which server has the decent pop caps.

Is there a basic chart of what costs what etc? is it worth having a sub for the game? or buy a stack of them points? does the game limit in what you can do? ie; you WILL need to buy points to craft/buy potions etc

Much love

Si

Yes, it is possible to get to level cap without buying in-game items from the Turbine store (apart from riding skill which is dirt cheap). Most importantly, you earn store points by completing certain quests so it is possible to complete the game without spending a single penny.

However, at present the best deal for a new player is one months subscription and buying the legendary version of Rise of Isenguard, the new expansion coming out in September. This will cost you about 40 quid and will enable you play the game to level cap if you like. (See the last couple of pages of this thread for more info.)

Play until level 30 when the free content runs out, and if you like it consider a month's subscription. If you still like it after that, then get the ROI deal.

So is like all content (quests / zones / dungeons) available up to level 30?

Pretty much, the free zones include the starter zones, Bree and the Lonelands. Bree and the lone lands are packed full of quests which will take you well above L30 by the time you run out. You can also do the epic book quests in these 2 zones too as you level. They also contain lots of deeds, which if you complete will reward you with a goodly amount of turbine points for you to spend later. As far as instances go I think you will recieve the great barrows and Garth Agarwen set of instances free as these are located in bree and the lone lands.

After you've run out of quests you can still visist the other zones and just grind mobs and do tasks to level (there will be no quests apart from the epics) but it wont be much fun. If you do all the deeds you might have enough TPs to buy the Evendim quest pack which is absolutely packed full of quests and will take you easily to L40 and also includes an instance cluster. You can always create a alt to grind out some more turbine points by repeating the deeds again

As said previously, subscribing for one month, creating a load of toons and also buying the Isengard pre-order is a fantastic way to get shed loads of content for very little cost.
