Macrium Reflect Cloning Guide

Just cloned my SSD to a new 750GB normal hard drive. I'm going to be selling my Samsung 840 Pro 512GB SSD. Everything seemed to go fine with the cloning process. Now when I installed the new 750GB drive into my laptop and power it on, it states "no operating system found". What am I missing here. I really can't be bothered to do a fresh install of Windows 7 and then download and install all the laptop drivers / programs from scratch

You cloned it on a different pc? It could have messed up the boot record

You might be able to salvage it by booting from the windows dvd and doing a startup repair

Also make sure you set the ssd as first boot device in the BIOS

I'm trying to clone my existing SSD which is installed on my laptop. I'm going to be selling the SSD. I've purchased a 750GB 2.5" standard hard drive and connected it to a USB caddy which I've then connected to the laptop via USB.

Anyway, I'm trying the clone process again to see what happens.

Try again,it should work fine, once done unplug old ssd, install newly cloned one and pop in BIOS to set the ssd as first boot device

If it doesn't work you can try samsungs own data migration tool

The Samsung migration tool only allows you to clone TO the SSD which I'm NOT trying to do. I'm trying to clone FROM the SSD to the new "normal" hard drive. I'll let you know how it goes.

Nice Guide.

Quick Question I currently have an old 160GB HDD in my HTPC and I have just purchased a 120GB SSD to replace it with. Will this method be okay to use as I really do not want to reinstall Windows.

it should clone the drives you want cloning just fine,no need to remove any others

just pick the source and destination drives

a clone is exactly that,an exact bootable copy of the original ssd/hdd all that's different is the drive itself, all paths/folders will be exact copy of original

Thanks for a great guide, I've just tried this cloning my C drive to the new SSD but unfortunately when I try to boot from the SSD it just says "reboot and select proper boot device" - any recommendations please? Thanks

did you set the new ssd as first boot device in the bios? or put it to #1 position

and did you remove all other hdd's apart from the two your cloning to and from?

if the above fails try booting from windows disc and do a startup repair

Thank you, it was set to the first boot device - I have no idea why it didn't work, possibly because I was already using the C: drive when I cloned it?

Either way I just did a clean install of Windows onto the SSD... it's all working okay now :)

Cheers
