Madeleine McCann cops ask Home Office for more money to continue search for missing child

Surely there must be other missing kids who don’t get this kind of money spent on trying to find them?
As a timely one how about Corrie Mckeague. Goes missing far more recently, there's cctv and GPS evidence of where he might have gone yet that search has been stood down already. Must be a kick in the teeth that Maddies search gets more funding the same week his is called off.

Of course they will want more money for the "investigation". Paedophile rings don't pay for themselves you know.

Conspiracy theories aside, it's time this "investigation" was completely audited. In the face of savage budget cuts the public needs to know what exactly has the police been doing with this money.

This extended funding is getting very silly now, we're all living in austerity Britain and once again, the police have been allowed to "flog a dead horse" even further. Other UK Parents of children who went missing, presumed dead, must be very upset at how this case seems to have unlimited funds.

This mirrors my thoughts exactly, its incredibly tough on all parents in similar situations but the disproportionate focus on this incident does a disservice to all the other parents.

Does anyone know if there is any truth that in the hours after she went missing a phone call from Gerry McCann went directly through to Gordon Brown?

I don't believe the McCann's had anything to do with it or any of the other conspiracy theories. But it always makes me wonder why this case has had so much money thrown at it. Did that phone call mean people in high places ensure the money keeps coming for this?

Government funding for the investigation has been agreed every six months, with £154,000 granted from October 2017 until the end of March this year.

What a waste of money. Champagne fridge must have been low or something.

Better to put that in the NHS or education.

Couldn't believe this when I heard it on the radio this morning. We've spent millions on this, what a waste!

This is why I have an issue with poor performing public services. The excuse "we don't have enough money" doesn't wash with me. The money is available, we just spent it on the wrong things.

they never spent this long looking for Shergar :-(

They never spent this long looking for anything. 100s of people go missing on an airliner and they don't look for this long.

At the end of the day this is one person out of 65 million. You have to draw the line somewhere unless more evidence warrants re-opening the case.

Whoever keeps signing off on this should have been sacked years ago.

Exactly this.

Unless the police investigating can prove that they have viable leads and require the extra cash, then i'm fine with that (reluctantly).

But to just request extra cash when it's clear this investigation has amounted to diddly squat is ridiculous, and is now just wasting the tax payers cash.

Considering the police are now woefully underfunded, this idea that government should just be granting funding individually based off of high profile media cases, is just ******* stupid.

It's the same with the Cannabis kid lately... if you're gonna spend that much on one kid for 7 years (officially), then you better spend it on all of them or start explaining yourself, why the hell is no one saying this?

It'd be ultimately a massive kick in the governments teeth if another family feels angry enough about their own missing child getting zero funding when this gets infinite, someone should just go to the high court to shut the government down on this.

New funding to extend investigation secured late spring. Hmmn, My cynic head is wondering if the Police would be so keen of pursuing further investigations if Madaline had gone missing somewhere cold and wet instead of sunny Portugul :/
