Malaysia Grand Prix 2012, Kuala Lumpur - Race 2/20

Oh, that's easy. Just ask Ferrari. :D

:D lol well at least the data he got from them was when they were doing ok! its easy to see why williams seem to keep him out of the spotlight, but hopefully he is bringing his experience to the team he has worked on some decent cars.

Yeah, I think it was a good call getting Coughlan in. So far it seems as though he's having a positive effect on the team. But we can't tell so early in the season yet and we do need him to work on next year's car as that'll be his first car that he's worked on from the beginning for Williams. It's a pity Sam Michael seemed to fail at Williams. I thought it was a bit strange that a Technical Director would become Sporting Director at McLaren, it's as if he's no faith in his technical skills anymore.

I thought for a second it was Red Bull complaining that something was too expensive and was about to laugh, considering that they threw the RRA out the window last year.

There is a fine line between being a concerned team putting up some resistance, and just being a bit of a cry baby that you didn't think of it first. RBR are slipping into the second camp.

The points and tyres now dictate that. It's no longer viable to go balls out for more than a lap because the fall off from the tyres hurts you more than you gain.

So they know they are trying to do 20 laps at 1.20 when the car could achieve much more. I'd like to see them change the tyres and tyre rules so you can use whatever compound you like. Lets face it though, even if they did have split strategies where you could go balls out with the penalties for reliability being so high not pushing the equipment would always be the favoured way.

To take on Vettel? There are much bigger contenders out there imo. This year we will see if Vettel is a real "contender". So far I haven't seen anything special now that his car isn't the fastest.

I'm not talking about this year.
Vettel is a driver who is going to be around for the next decade or so. Hamilton right now, appears to the be the only one who will also be around for the next 10 years.

I cant see how Alonso is going to maintain his current level during the next 10 years. I believe Alonso will be at the top of his game for the next 5 years, but even at the top of his game, he may not be able to contain Vettel.

Remember, Vettel is only 24 years of age and not at his peak. He is ahead of both Alonso and MSc, when they were his age.

I think you've missed his point in that he's not of the opinion that Vettel is THE gold standard who has to be beaten for the next decade.

His comment regarding this year is that this year we will finally see how Vettel performs now that he's in a fight and whether he can still get race wins in a car that doesn't allow him to just get pole and drive off at the start. This year will (hopefully) show us whether Vettel truly is a force to be reckoned with for years to come or if he was just a good driver who happened to be in an exceptional car.

Has Hamilton learnt his lesson from last yer?

Apparently, he wants to take a more Prost/Button like approach to racing, as opposed to the Mansell/Senna, balls-to-the-wall approach, he previously took.

Could he mature into a genuine contender, to take on Vettel in years to come?

It is good for him but his all out style is what made me a fan. It's a shame it just doesn't work right now with the tires.

I hate 3 week breaks, also away at a wedding all week end. Hope I can avoid results, untill I can watch it Sunday night.

Fair enough, I guess I missed what you were getting at.

I see your point.

In the first race, he beat Hamilton in a slower car.
And in the 2nd race, he was hounding Hamilton (though this was a wet race), before his crash.

If he continues along those lines (without crashing), then I think he will have justified his position as a the gold standard (behind Alonso).

I don't understand why Alonso is still considered the out right best?

He's in the top few, no doubt, but I don't see why people put him out infront?
