Thanks...

I wonder how that varies depending on the culture though.

Ah, therein lies the problem. Cultural differences are far more likely to be a cause of extremism and the implimentation of sharia than Islam belief itself.

My main point here is that some of the posters here treat all Muslims as if they all adhere to a fundalmentalist or Extremist view of the Qur'an, like my Muslim friend here says, any modern muslim who take the words of the Quran literally is either a fundalmentalist or a fool and in most cases both.

The extremists goal is to create hate

your solution is offending all muslims - extremists have created this hate in you

extremists win.

No... Your argument is on its head...

If we take South Park (which partly behind this whole thing), who has decided to be offended by it, and get carried away?
- Has Hollywood ever kicked up a fuss over it mocking Tom Cruise and suggested we lose the freedom of speech?
- Has Israel ever kicked up a fuss over it mocking Barbra Streisand?
- Have Christians ever kicked up a fuss over it mocking Christ or God?
- Have Roman Catholics ever kicked up a fuss over it mocking Catholicism?

Have any of those bodies ever asked that the general rules of freedom of speech be adjusted to their liking?

Yet, Islam suggests we should all adhere to their will? That somehow drawing their religious figure should not be allowed?

For a religious group to try and some suggest it is above reproach is ridiculous. To suggest that it cannot be poked fun at is unhealthy and unatural.

In short, no one is (really) offending Muslims:-
1) Muslims are going out of their way to be offended.
2) Muslims are being unfare in expecting other people to adhere to their beliefs.

Why do the moderate muslims never protest in the street and shout out against the extremists?

Good question, I would imagine the same reasons moderate Christians or Jews don't either. They are far too busy with their normal lives to worry about what some psycho Imam or the latest stereotype on Eastenders is up to.

It is important to point out that the MCB have repeatedly denounced acts of violence in Islams name.

thats just a joke.
you are saying Christians would not be offended if you mocked Jesus ?
Hindus would not be offended if you mocked their Bhagwans(*spelling?) ?
would you not be offended if someone mocked something/someone close to your heart ? maybe a family member ?

sure all above would be offended but just wouldn't resort to violence and death threats.

you like many others have been goaded into this by the extremists, im sure you can see it but your pride won't let you admit you fell for the bait of the very people you are attempting to fight.

but hey if you want to carry on and join the haters then don't let common sense get in the way:p

If you makes you feel better to brandish me a 'hater' fair enough - If it in some way gives your point some meaning, so be it...

But you're missing the importance of the point I'm making. Being able to mock, deride, and even insult to some degree any token or symbol of importance or power is a VERY IMPORTANT freedom. Without that freedom we lose the ability to question and challenge matters.

Over the past ten years we've seen Islam complain a number of times when people have 'mocked' its religious figure heads. Should we stop people from doing this? Should people not be able to challenge Islam in this way? Or should Muslim instead learn to be more tollerant and accept this as the healthy thing it is?

I'll repeat my analogy from earlier in this thread. If a country's leader or party suggested no one in their country, or indeed any other country, was allowed to mock, question, deride them in any way (eg: drawing), do you think we should agree to this? Do you think this would be a healthy move?

It's of course ridiculous. For all time, points of power have been the brunt of mocking/humour, why should Mohammed be any different. I'm sure he's big enough to take it, and doesn't need silly humans to fight his battles for him.

It's time for Islam to chill out a bit and stop taking itself so seriously.

I wish life was like this:

We could all hug and have food together and just be sweet to eachother. It would be so much fun. :)
