Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

My Mercedes E class went in to Mercedes for what I assumed was a warranty issue - the split folding rear bench wouldn't fold down.

After a few hours of them pulling it apart and checking everything, a snr technician was consulted and asked them to check the seat belt sensor.

I didn't realise it had these, but it turns out the dog seatbelt clip I have plugged in was stopping the seat being flipped down!

And I was amazed to find Jardines Mercedes didn't charge me for this, even though it was my mistake.

Oofft. Don't tell the bloke in the Audi warranty thread.

Well in theory you taught them a valuable lesson too - you should charge them for it! :D

Good to know though, as we are recent dog owners and I've only used my other car for driving it around so far.

The E63 is going!!

they’re taking it back and I’ve signed up for a brand new c300 diesel AMG line night pack something or other. Kind of good timing as I’m starting a new job in London in 2 weeks. I’m off to work with Andy Serkis at The Imaginarium

sad to see the silly car go, but it’s just way too unreliable. Everything has been sorted under warranty but I’ve lost faith....sad times

I’ll be back in an AMG after this one!

seems to be the pattern:

CLK>>>>C63>>>>C250>>>>E63>>>>C300

Ah sad times, but I think it's fair to say you've stuck it out for a fair while.

Who knows, you might be ready to get back into an AMG just as they release the lovely new 4cyl C63 AMG... :(

Hah! Merc warranties have been excellent in my experience. In fact last week my car went in for a service and I'd asked them to look at some corrosion on the front drivers side wheel. Frankly I'd expected to be fobbed off and told that it was due to stone chips and I'd need to get it fixed myself etc. but they didn't even quibble on it. The warranty claim was made there and then, and I'm just waiting for the new wheel to be delivered and they'll swap it over. Can't have been cheap either for a 20" wheel.

My step dad changed from an S3 to an A35 last year, having driven both they unsuprisingly didn't feel massively different to drive.

Interior was the biggest difference naturally with the A35 being current generation whereas the S3 was the prevous 8v model (on an 18 plate I think).

Step dad says it feels lighter, more direct steering and noisier with pop and crackles on the exhaust.

I haven't had a chance to look at the the new Audi S3 or MK8 Golf R yet but as you say I was pretty impressed with the interior of the A35 when I visited the dealer just before this lockdown purgatory all kicked off. Felt noticeably better than the previous Audi S3 IMO.

I drove an A200 AMG Line last year and it was fantastic, the best small hatchback I've ever driven. I can only imagine how good the A35 must be. It's really nicely made.

Particularly interesting as I've driven the previous generation too and it was horrible.

Don’t buy an A35 AMG if you even slightly value refinement. Drove a few last year and found the std suspension extremely harsh and the road noise at motorway speed unbearable. ‘Hey mercedes’ voice control is also irritating. Eventually picked up an ex demo C43 which is superior in every way bar handling and not much more expensive. Perhaps if I was 21 and desperately wanted a hatch I would love the A Class more but despite being an attractive looker it is harsh and doesn’t ‘feel’ like a Mercedes IMO.

Had my c63 for a month now. It’s still so much fun to drive coming from a fiesta. I love overtaking idiots speeding up on the motorway when I overtake them. What’s the point poodling along at 65mph and accelerating to 70mph+ when I start to overtake them? I just kick down on the accelerator and I’m past the idiots in less than a second.

Things I don’t like about the c63:
- terrible build quality, lots of rattling and creaking. The build material is higher standard compared to a fiesta but at least the fiesta did not rattle.
- interior lights don’t come on automatically when I switch off the engine at night.
- can’t see side indicators led on mirror caps when inside the cabin.
- really harsh ride quality
- road noise and tyre noise is quite loud on motorway. E class is much superior in this aspect

Interior lights thing should just be a case of pressing the interior light button when it goes dark after you switch the engine off.

Then they should go off when you lock the car and it'll remember that setting.

That's how it works in my 2018 E class anyway

Thats a hell of step up from Fiesta! :)

Had mine 2 years next week and I'd agree with the build quality! It creaks constantly, harsh and crashy ride.
Road noise wise I dont find it too bad (I came from a 2004 E46). I've only ran MP4 18's. Are you running 19's?
For all its flaws the noise never gets tiresome!

Sold my T5.1 end of last year and bought this to convert, so far so good, decent deal compared with some of the crazy van prices of late

On my E class you can either change it in the settings or you can change it in the Mercedes Me app. You should be able to set the delay time before the interior light switches off

I thought the A35 came with adaptive suspension as an option? I'd assumed you'd be able to set it to comfort for longer journeys or going about the city centre/etc?

Were the cars you drove fitted with AMG ride control?

Meanwhile my coin tray which broke after using it once on an approved used AMG was classed as wear and tear and I had to argue with them for it to be fixed under warranty. lol

I am on 19s and run flats so really harsh ride quality. I want to put PS4s on but the car came with new tyres when I got the car so I’m going to run them down.

Road noise isn’t terribly bad, just not much better than a fiesta.
