Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

We recently acquired W204 C200 2.2 CDI Auto from Car Giant.

Previous to this we had a C180 Kompressor 1.8 Petrol Manual, but this is much better.

I'll add some more pics when I get it back, currently having some work done back at Car Giant after I noticed a few mechanical faults/noises.

Apparently they are changing..

Following our telephone conversation, we currently have the following parts on order; front and rear discs and pads, front and rear shock absorbers, top mounts and front drop links.

I bought the car 2 weeks ago, reported the problem after a week, we dropped it off on Tuesday and expect it back by Saturday.

Anyone recommend where I can get some decent alloys from? These come with the bob standard looking ones, I want the ones the E Class uses.

New discs and shocks all round? Sound like a really well-kept example :/

As for wheels, look at eBay. Make sure they will fit the W204 as the E could well have different offset.

Hi many miles has it done? I'm surprised it needs that much replacing, my dads same age same spec (except manual) one has done 140k miles and has only really needed the usual consumables, it still on its original clutch.

It's only done 74k, we bought it for around the £9-10k mark, I thought it was a pretty decent deal. Full leather interior, plus all that work done covered by Car Giant seen as it's there own fault must add some value to it.

I'm thinking Car Giant mechanics aren't really diagnosing properly here and have gone for the replace everything option lol.

I think the size of rims it comes with is 16", if I find some 17" alloys will they fit? Or, is it not a good idea?

Sl400 AMG ordered. Coming in a few weeks!

Picking this up next Tuesday.

Service plan is £41 a month - I'm going to go for it given the SL will be pretty expensive to maintain.

Does anyone have any experience with Mercedes Service Plans? Are they generally good value for money? I know the services are dependent on a mixture of mileage and time intervals unlike BMW..

That is the fastest build of a new car ever - did you order it from stock or something?

As for the service plan it seems very expensive - you need to work out exactly what it covers and exactly how much that would cost you yourself. You may find unless you do big miles it isnt worth it.

I ordered it from stock - else I'd be waiting a few months :)

The service plan for 3 services over 3 years is £41. This covers Services A and B and the cost of any additional items including brake fluid, spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter screen wash etc.

Mercedes have the following service policy - Every 15,000 miles or every year, whichever comes first and it swings between A and B. The killer service is meant to be B from what I've read.

If I take a service plan, I'll be paying 36*£41 = £1476 for 3 services, £492 per service.

Personally I don't expect i'll get even close to 15,000 miles so I know for a fact that I will only have 1 service a year.

£1476 for 3 services sounds like excellent value to me?

It's crap value on a brand new car - for comparison sake 5 years of servicing on a 650i is £525 and 5 years of servicing on a 740d is included in the price of the car. Heck even an M6 GranCoupe is £1050 for 5 years!

This is where Mercedes always falls down for me, the aftermarket costs are very expensive.

On a car that will never be more than 3 years old when covered £500 a service is ridiculous - it'll cover 40k miles or less and should not be in need of any major work.

It is quite insane isn't it. BMW are good like that - very transparent in service costs and reasonable too. Condition based servicing helps as well.

A single service on an SL can be well into 4 figures though, I am not sure how the age is relevent as the service regime is the same for life. As you know it is a far more expensive car to run than any BMW. I dont think that service plan sounds bad at all does it? Its an SL Mercedes not a BMW! :)

It is a far more expensive car to run I agree but this is because of lunacy pricing by Mercedes. It is not an inherently more complex or fragile car than an M6 and should therefore not cost more to service. Exactly what servicing is needed on a virtually new Mercedes to require a 4 figure bill?

I am comparing it with 500hp BMWs not a 1 series. It's excessive.

He has the car though and is now working out whether to buy the plan or not to. Out of context compared with a different brand it might not be good value, but in context it is.

In context the plan is good value and he should buy it, <£1500 for 3 services on an SL is something he should take. :)

I think my C200 has these alloys below, very ordinary.

Does anyone know what these alloys below are called or if there is some sort of variant I need to be looking for? Or, if you can find similar on eBay that would be great.

As that other ad says, the current size of alloys on at the moment are 16", it should be ok to fit 17" alloys onto the car, right?

Looks similar: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-...Y-WHEEL-GENUINE-PART-2124012302-/360964497165

Thanks, that's what I was looking for, 6 Twin Spoke is what they are called I suppose, cheers!

Car Giant received the parts this morning, and have called at 6.15pm saying its available for picked up, almost 9 hours of labour fitting those parts. They close at 6.30 and not open on weekends, so will be picking it up on Monday instead now.

How much would a normal garage charge you think to do the following below?

I called Mercedes to get a service plan for the car and they said the following below 'might' need changing so those included in the first service and the next servicing after the price would be around £800 for the two servicing, that's a lot! Lol, so I just asked her to email me the things that are due a change according to my last servicing at 65k (currently 75k).

Engine: change oil and filter, Replace brake fluid, Replace air filter element, Replace fuel filter.

Automatic transmission: Carry out oil and filter change (with transmission 722.9 - NAG2-FE+)

The car has done all services up until 65k every 15k miles, I know this because Mercedes have records of it and it was a previously owned Mercedes company car.
