Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

Thanks everyone.

So delicious.

Please tell us more about this car. I know what an SL is but know nothing about the trims it comes in.

So what is the SL400?

So essentially they've stopped making the SL350 and replaced it with the SL400.
The SL400 is a 3.0L V6 twin turbo that puts out about ~325 bhp. It sounds sweet :)
I don't think I have ever seen another one on the road!

I'm interested in a c180 Amg coupe, what's people's thoughts on this car? There's quite a big jump in engine size but I can't afford that so would have to stick to this engine size.

Really keen on the new W205 C-class, but disappointed with the lack of choice in engines available in the UK at the moment. I know diesels are a vast improvement on what they were, in terms of noise, refinement and power delivery, yet I can't get enthusiastic about owning one.

Thus, the choice is between the somewhat lacklustre C200 with 184bhp, or the fire breathing mentalist V8 AMG models, which sadly, cost pretty much twice what the C200 does, and are well out of my budget. Is having the C300 available in the UK really so much to ask?

That's awsome, but the interior on the pre-facelift W203 is awful :(
But when you've got that engine up front, WGAF? :D

On another note, what are the engines in the W204 like?
I'm looking at the C220/C250 CDI or possibly the C230/C250 maybe C280/C300

All I've heard about on the CDI engines is injectors, injectors, injectors..
I'm looking at 1-owner 100,000+ miles..

What is there to look for in general on these things? Does the facelift add anything important other than getting rid of that horrid pop-up satnav?

It's post-facelift. I'm sure all C55's are post-facelift.

The C300 is available in the UK, along with the C250 and C220 as well?

Repaired the driver side window regulator this afternoon.

Had a horrible crunching/grinding noise when trying to put the window down mid week last week. The motor was working but nothing moved much. I did a bit of reading around and it seems to be the regulator that falls apart over time. Apparently fairly common!

Got a repair kit for about £30 and spent a couple of hours stripping it all back and then reassembling the door, it's good as new again.

New regulator would have been about £200+ from Mercedes and 1-2 hours of labour so quite pleased with that :)

Been driving a C63 around this weekend, short of boring runs down a motorway it's the first time I've spent a decent amount of time in one.

Impressions are, starting with the not so good bits, that interior is just not what I'd expect from a 60k car. Cheap and plasticy in parts, and just looks dated.

However the good bit, that engine and how it drives, is the reason people buy them not for the interior. Also felt like it copes with it's weight nicely, didn't feel too heavy upfront or anything, nicely balanced imho. Feels like a proper sledgehammer when burying that throttle.

Just is disappointing how cheap it feels inside, and I'm really not one to usually be that bothered about interiors (I've had mostly French or Jap cars!), but for some reason it irks me a bit in this.

Overall though lovely car to drive, but glad I'm only borrowing it and not paying for it!

If anything it's made me want to try out an E92 M3 even more, am guessing engine doesn't have quite as much character but to drive think I may prefer it.

That noise though.....

The noise more than makes up for the interior :)

I agree though, AMG have never done a good job of the interior. Brilliant engines though and that is all I am interested in.

How I wish they would put that engine in an SLK!

Have finally managed to get all of the carbon out of the tailpipes...that was one tough job!

No pics of the shiny tailpipes?!

What did you use to clean them out?

A combination of wire wool, a drill with various brillo pad and metal polishing attachments, autoglym wheel cleaner, autoglym engine degreaser and autoglym metal polish. Still a few deposits left, but I want to see how the metal settles before I do more. Some of the inside has lost its shine slightly, but still better than the black carbon that was there! Pics will follow :)
