Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

Been driving a C63 around this weekend, short of boring runs down a motorway it's the first time I've spent a decent amount of time in one.

Impressions are, starting with the not so good bits, that interior is just not what I'd expect from a 60k car. Cheap and plasticy in parts, and just looks dated.

...

Just is disappointing how cheap it feels inside, and I'm really not one to usually be that bothered about interiors (I've had mostly French or Jap cars!), but for some reason it irks me a bit in this.
Had a nosey round some W204s yesterday and the interior put me off straight away. Full of nasty cheap plastic. E90 walks all over it.

Haven't even driven a C250/300/350 but now I know there's no point.

Yeah while Merc body styling > BMW's newer models (in the 1-3 series anyway), the interior styling is lacking as mentioned by you guys, especially the materials quality used. Older models tend to have a tighter fit and finish inside though but we all knew that anyway.

I've driven the Sport version C250 Blue Efficiency. Nice car to drive, felt planted with plenty of torque to waft about in but it had no real sense of occasion compared to how it looked, and a detachment from the road surface which I had not been used to and was put off by. Other than that, the drive was fine and the double clutch auto worked fairly well with the paddles.

That's what I was looking at but injectors seem to be a common issue.
They're not particularly spacious either and 99% seem to have half leather seats :(

I didn't take notice of the front space but thinking back, it was small for a family saloon although I don't take up much space myself so it simply didn't register at that moment :p

Would love to test drive a new A250 though :D

But the alternative is what?

The F30 is even worse, at least the C class looks nice, ridiculous screen aside. The F30 is a sea of random black plastic and feels like a car from the class below, which is hardly surprising given they basically lifted the interior from the 1 Series. The Audi A4 is so old it's not even worth mentioning. The Lexus IS has been styled by somebody on LSD.

The F30 isn't that bad. Better than a W204 anyway!

The W205 interior is in another league.
Indeed. But so is the price :p
The current MB range has excellent interiors. It's the previous gen which are ****e.

The C300 is available in the UK, along with the C250 and C220 as well?

In the diesel range it is, but not in petrol engines. I see from the configurator on Mercedes website that since I've posted this, the C350e hybrid is available now though, but still not one I'd want to buy.

With the C63 you can half forget about it as it's just so awesome to drive ;)

Need to find an excuse to borrow it again.

Exactly this. It depends whether you buy a car for the pretty interior or the engine/drivability. Put your foot down in a 63 and nothing else matters :)

If you only care about the engine and drive-ability then why are you buying a saloon car in the first place? Buy a sports car.

Cars like this are about the entire package, of which the interior is a part.

Great review of the new C63. Top gear could learn something from these videos. Can't say I am struck on the outside, just a regular C class (other than the quad pipes), but let's wait for the black series. Sounds fantastic though, can't beat an AMG engine. Some of the other tech is impressive on there too.

Being detached from the road surface is quite a good thing on cars designed to travel long distances over UK roads. Something that BMW seem to have forgotten with the 3 series.

The gearbox is a standard torque converter unit with epicyclic gears.

Looks terrible. I think you should sell it. £12k? :D

I'm still looking for one. It's amazing how many are flogging them as the brakes are due. You can bet your bottom dollar, if they don't mention the brakes in the advert, they're due.

Last I looked prices on these have gone up about £3k since I bought it. I guess people are buying them for the spring/summer.

It isn't surprising that people are flogging them when the brakes are due given that they are £1500 just for the front set - that said, they are absolutely fantastic brakes. Plus, at least the brakes are the only concern with these, mechanically they are solid. Mine have a fair bit of life left, but then it was a female owner before me who mostly used it on the motorway.

Worth waiting to find the right one.
