Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

So my current car is coming to the end of it's life and I'm looking at replacing it sometime soon. I've found a 2017 E220d AMG Line Premium for sale within budget that seems to tick all of the boxes I'd like. Is there anything major to look out for on these cars?

The only major red flag I can see is it's a Birmingham registered car and it had it's first MOT on 22/06/2020 at 0 miles and then the second MOT on 02/07/2020 at 41,648 miles, does this scream that it's been clocked? It's a Toyota main dealer selling the car and they claim it has full Mercedes service history so I could request copies of the mileage data from that.

Similar story here. I've had to wait 3 weeks for some replacement front suspension top mount bearings to come in for replacement under warranty as well. This is on a pretty bog standard C300 estate too. Lead times are crazy.

Mercedes have got some real issues with their supply, which isn't a problem if you're not under warranty or it isn't a Mercedes only part because you can just pick it up in the aftermarket. I know rocker covers for the M156 engines are in big demand at the moment with any that come into the country snapped up in a matter of days, then out of stock again for 3 months+

I wouldn't worry about it at all. I'm guessing that some lazy idiot that did the first MOT has forgotten to look at the mileage when he was in the car and, once he was sat down at the computer, couldn't be bothered to walk back to the car and have a look, so has just typed in 0. The MB service history will tell you it's true mileage over the years

My C63 goes in tomorrow for the passenger airbag recall. It'll be nice to not have to worry about shrapnel any more. :D

I'm getting a courtesy car - albeit purely to get me back home and then back to the dealer when it's done. Given mine is a W204, do we reckon they'll put me in something tasty to try to tempt me? Or something pap because I'm a scummy pauper with a 9 year old car and clearly never going to spend any money with them? :D

I strongly suspect the latter. Not that I can complain, as they'd be 100% correct.

Unless you requested a test drive in something specific, enjoy your A180.

You're lucky to be getting one at all, my local BMW dealer have a 2+ month wait for courtesy cars (and they are mostly pretty poor).

The smart move is to request something from the sales fleet, that you can borrow for the day.

Drum roll please...

The answer is...

C! (This is like an episode of Poirot, with the hitherto unmentioned option being the true answer.)

c = I've just had a phone call, the courtesy car which had my name against it has just been returned damaged, so I've had to re-book the work for early November.

Reminds me when I had the B class courtesy car last year. My road was grid locked due to a bin truck and I squeezed down a gap that meant I needed to back up a bit. I heard a massive CRUNCH and thought oh ffs I've nailed the courtesy car. I was on my road so pulled in and went to check for damage. Nothing...

Sat panicked for about an hour or two mulling over what I had hit, how it couldn't have left damage etc... then realised it was it was just the rear wiper giving a courtesy wipe in reverse. Having owned saloons/coupes for 12 years I hadn't heard it since my first ever car, a Fiesta.

The delayed answer is:

A 1 year old C220d estate. So not terrible, but a bit boring.
I have to admit, the interior is quite a nice place to be, and the satnav is very snazzy. It feels weird the headrest actually touching the back of my head because I'm used to the AMG seats!
The brakes are incredibly grabby. Much less progressive than the C63, they seem to apply about 50% braking power if you even look at the pedal. Nearly put myself through the windscreen the first time I used them.
Oh - and it took me about a minute when I first got in to work out where the hell the gear selector is. :D

Got my own car back already. And they've hoovered it, so that's a bonus.

Unfortunately they also found a small crack in a rear alloy. So I think I might be searching for a new set of wheels over the next few days.

What do people think of Bronze against a Tenorite Grey estate?

Their dealers are so far off being good it makes my head hurt.

Average is the best I have for the good ones, utter **** for the rest.

Received a pleasant surprise today. Had a UPS notification about an impending delivery and thought "I haven't ordered anything". It turns out the AMG Lounge sent me a gift.

It's big and heavy, just like an AMG calendar should be!
