Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

New GT, looks great (well like a mash-up of a GR86 and a 911), but in every other way is a compromise from the previous car.

Thinking about it, the inevitable hybrid is going to be over 2,000kg, lol.

Our local mercedes dealer doing a reveal for the new 2024 C class ... they just need to put this new cle 6 cylinder in it
20kwh in the hybrid, but heavy I guess.

I like the look of the exterior, not sure on the interior yet as I've not seen it IRL but I'm really not a fan of this trend of massive tablets stuck to the dash.

It also strikes me that the merging of the C & E coupes in to the CLE model is just a way for Merc to charge E class money for C class quality. I hope I'm wrong, though.

Yeah way too much tech and screens in cars. The last thing I want in a car is an iPad looking thing stuck to the dash. Give me proper buttons with style and character and screen with its UI that belongs in a car.

I can see that having big screens and hence large text&icons means the touches you have to make are quicker and less distractive - my older relations definitely couldn't get on with a 9" screen say.
so, a lesser evil.

How did the dealer do this time? Any luck?
Yea they did it right. Took the oil out and did it again, no charge which considering they were not the offending dealer was decent. It was only overfilled by .2L but it was overfilled. Goes back to have the failed passenger air back issue fixed next month.

So far, Birmingham Mercedes doing what they said they would do, which is all I ask.

Not much to ask for in all fairness! But glad you’re getting it sorted.

How are you finding ownership in general? How long have you had it now? Any thoughts on changing?

How hard is it to look after matte paint? From what I gather the paint is the same but its the clearcoat which is matte and you shouldnt use any traditional cleaning equipment like you would on a glossy car. I am debating chopping in my E63S for an AMG GT 4 door and it has the Designo Brilliant Blue Magno paint but Im not sure I can deal with the hassle of the paint if I cant take it to my local Eastern European car wash and I have to buy a whole load of new gear to wash and dry it

Yeah not a chance I'd take it to a local car wash. You need to be careful what products you use on it, it's not radically different to look after but you can't use certain products, and you absolutely can't use any kind of wax or polish on them, unless designed for matte paint, which they definitely won't be using. They won't necessarily ruin the paint, but the finish will look awful and blotchy

You wouldn't need to spend much, but I'd definitely be doing it yourself, unless you use a decent car wash and can trust them to listen to you when you tell them what not to use

From what I've heard, paint chips are a nightmare to remove from matte paint, so you'd probably need to have the car PPF'd - but then you could just buy a gloss car and use matte PPF if you really wanted that effect.

Personally I think matte finishes look great... on someone else's car

Well I’ve PPF covering all of the major exposed parts so that significantly reduced the chips issue. PH neutral stuff is best, so now snow foams or washes with wax in them, which is what I use anyway.

I’ve had zero issues with the paint or scratches to this point, and I did use some local Eastern Europeans to wash it once. I have some finish sprays from Swissvax for Matte finish but I’ve had zero issues so far.

What is it with Mercedes and Piano black interiors? It looks so bad! When I bought a class a few years ago I paid them to pull the Piano black central bit out and swap for the matt wood.

Not liking the pin stripe wood in that new CLE either.

EDIT: ah, jeez! and fake engine noise through the speakers?!
