Metro: Exodus [E3 2017]

What's with the the steam superior platform offering a lot more features..Err 14 years I've been with steam and hardly anything has changed, look at how many billions they raked in for little output, I will buy the game whatever the client if the reviews justify it, so many oh I need my games in one place gargabe just lol.

I'm around 14 years too and plenty has changed... granted not all features that I actually make use of but it's clearly a superior product when you look at the Epic store...

Most people's issue isn't having the games in one place it's signing over details to a company in the pocket of the Chinese govt. with a proven track record of bad security and hacks, whilst also setting a precedent for more exclusivity on the PC as at platform... For most of us we already have games in more than one place with uPlay, Origin, GOG etc. and although it's annoying most tolerate it because at least those launchers come from a (relatively!) better known entitiy...

An update from 4A about it.

https://twitter.com/MetroVideoGame/status/1092115385061646336

The recent decision to move Metro Exodus from Steam to the Epic Game Store was made by Koch Media / Deep Silver alone.

The recent comments made by a member of the 4A Games development team do not reflect Deep Silver’s or 4A Games’ view on the future of the franchise. They do reflect the hurt and disappointment of a passionate individual who has seen what was previously nothing but positive goodwill towards his work turn to controversy due to a business decision he had no control over. We respectfully ask that any and all valid feedback over this decision is directed at Koch Media / Deep Silver, and not the developers at 4A Games.

The future release strategy of the Metro series lies with Koch Media / Deep Silver. Our decision to partner with Epic Games was based on the goal of investing in the future of the series and our development partner at 4A Games. We have every intention of continuing this franchise, and a PC version will always be at the heart of our plans.

On the other hand Steam are a bigger platform and they should get dirty and undercut Epic games and make loads of games exclusive to themselves :) That's what I'd do if I was the boss of the company.... everyone just wants to S**** everyone over these days so do it back

And that would help consumers in the long term how? Solidifying a steam monopoly is in nobodies interest.

In addition what you described is predatory pricing and is considered anti-competitive practice in many jurisdictions and is illegal under some anti-competitive practices legislation.

Zero ****s given here 4A, do your worst you trash.

Extreme, it was one isolated developer (clearly an emotional response) and the decision wasn't made by 4A, it was made by the publishers Kock Media/Deep Silver.

Surely more warranted to direct such criticism at the decision makers.

I won't be buying the game! Don't agree with the company going exclusively to Epic Games! Its no different to Tesco stopping say Asda from selling Milk or Branded Bread! imagin if they did that ? All hell would break lose..... There are ways to get customers to use you

Plenty of brands and products are retailer-exclusive, seemingly no riots in the streets as yet though.

Yeah I'm just messing about really, let's see if we get an official statement of some kind.

It's been posted twice already...

At the end of the day real competition would have been Epic coming out with a svelte, slick launcher that had all of the core features of Steam and perhaps some extra QOL features that Steam is lacking, offer developers a better cut and do some of the "free game" type promotions they've done to try and bring in a few people to get word of mouth going, and then hopefully land a few bigger AAA type titles choosing to also launch on their platform and let the quality of their new launcher win people over... Taking an "anything you can do I can do better" attitude would seriously threaten Valve's position and maybe drive some actual change, instead of this throwing around of cash and posturing which benefits absolutely nobody

To be fair to them, they have to start somewhere. no one, Valve included started with all the bells and whistles attached but I do agree they could have done with a bit more on it.

My biggest problem is the potential for crossplay barriers which might end up segmenting gamers who buy on different platforms apart from eachother. That would be an absolute disaster in my eyes.

Well to re-use the argument that everyone loves to kick Valve with... Epic must have made millions, billions even out of Fortnite, and the Epic Store/Launcher is the best thing they could be bothered to produce with all that money? But instead of investing in making the launcher good they'd rather toss money at whatever developers they can convince to sell-out for exclusivity to trap people into their platform...

Absolutely, there's a lot to be worried about in that regard... Whose to say they won't suddenly go "we're changing Epic Store so that it's a subscription service" or even worse "we're changing all Epic Store titles so that unless you subscribe for a Premium level account you will have to endure gameplay interrupting adverts every 5 minutes"?

I can see what you mean but Valve have had many many years to fix problems. Throwing money at something doesn't guarantee flawlessness from day 1. Steam is definitely the better launcher right now but if you used steam way back in 2004/2005 you will understand how terrible it was then. I do want a competitor so I hope Epic can do well, if not I will just look elsewhere for one.

I don't think any company would do that just now when they are trying to gain share on Steam, it would be absolute suicide to try and force a subscription service or ads on players. That said it isn't impossible. I feel like it'll end up being very similar to Steam in the end and to be honest all launchers/clients should be similar to that. If it works well there's a reason it works well.

Starting to worry about this game. Just looks like it's chasing the whole far cry thing, hope I'm wrong. Saw one trailer where it states no fetch quests etc. Then saw a gameplay blowout where a guy asks you to go collect X items from a Y location

Who knows! I love the series and hope this is as good if not better than the last 2

If the game ends up having you search for feathers, I'm not buying it :D

Yep I remember, it was absolutely trash and when Steam was first around I vocally hated it... when they announced they were going to "port" (if you can call it that) the new Unreal Tournament to Steam people (myself included) were so incredibly against it...

No not now, of course that would be stupid but if Tencent get their way and the plan of buying exclusivity and trying to force a large invested install base onto their platform who knows what they could do? The same could be said of any of these companies but Valve at least have a long track record

I was looking forward to purchasing this game but now will now steer clear thanks to corporate greed.

Too much Console 'esque marketing **** is not welcome on the PC.

Shareholders have ruined a once great hobby, that is a fact.

We see little "creativity" now as it all has to be balanced with "financial risk", not someone having the balls to make something because they believe in it.

All this is. is a RACE TO THE BOTTOM.

From the 20% Epic make, how much will go into growing the platform, how much will goto Chinese profits?

Steam is NOT a monopoly (despite what people may say), but even if it was, it is far from a "bad" monopoly.

Upper management thinking "Ooh, the whole Fortnite install base will buy our game, QUICK.. to the Bat mobile"...

Soon realising that the Fortnite playerbase is far from the AAA gamer they originally thought they were.

Haven't Epic already been hacked with 10 million 'Fortnite' (Epic) accounts having their details stolen? They want us to invest into an already compromised platform!? This has to be satire comedy.
