Either one of two things here.

He's a vegetable.

Or he's making enough of an improvement to the point he can speak and they're keeping it all a big surprise and that he's eventually going to come out and show the world himself how much of a recovery he's made.

I agree it seems a negative point that they are not discussing his condition. But Good luck to him and I hope he does pull through ok.

Formula 1 is so safe these days - it's takes a freak accident like that to seriously threaten a driver's life.

If there was lots of gravel traps like the old days it would have killed the momentum. Even Martin Brundle keeps talking about them.

The track he crahed on, is an old track, one that cannot be modified much due to its placement, it has old style gravel traps in places. It wouldn't have helped him, he crashed where there had been a crash, something unlikely.
Although it does justify the decision esrlier in the year of the silverstone stewrads to fix a section of crash barrier delaying the race significantly, even if chances of a further crash were minimal.

Unfortunately I don't see it as good news at all.
The statement actually says nothing and uses "assume".

It reads as a PR statement and in fact is no change. Which is bad news, longest the no change the less probability of rehabilitation.

Well, it's proving these old tracks aren't fit for purpose anymore. For F1 at least. Just like the same problems at Monaco.

Or sausage kerbs….
