Middle Earth: Shadow of War

WB are setting a bad trend with loot boxes in singleplayer...

Unfortunately gamers are not the most sensible of folk, the pre-order culture and success of micro transactions shows this. Gamers just gotta have their loot at any price.

If things continue on this trend I'll either be playing indie games only or not gaming at all.

Wonder if anyone from Monolith will tweet their feelings about the state of the game & how it's ruining their rep'.

Like when latest Sonic game suddenly had denuvo plague added to it, one of the team started posted asking for folks feelings about drm/denuvo. It didn't change anything (at least not yet) but came across as someone involved that wasn't amused.

Well, that or another marketing ploy, perhaps.

To be honest, if the game is anything like the last one I'll still buy it. I won't be getting involved in micro transactions or BS DLC, but if the base game provides as much entertainment as the first one then I'm in.

even if your not buying micro transactions or DLC you are telling them its ok to remove parts of the game & hide them behind loot boxes as well as unfair playing field on the upcoming MP where you have permadeath

if your ok with that go ahead.

I fear that the game will be designed in such a way that the game will very much be an absolute grind fest without the the purchase of loot boxes and therefore won't be like the last one at all.
I think there is pretty much no doubt that certain areas of the game will have been intentionally 'gimped' to lean the player towards a purchase of loot crates, its happened before and will happen again.

The difference is this time its a single player game and WB appear to be attempting profiteer from someones death.

I don't believe in boycotts as such, although I'll never pre-order any game (been stung too many times). The moral stance is a personal thing, and you could still buy the game without supporting that. Whilst it appears very ill judged, I don't feel that strongly that I wouldn't purchase the game.

I'll wait to see how it pans out. Reviews will dictate whether I buy it or not. It's a pity the developer has went off on a tangent to maximise the cash flow, so hopefully they'll realise when no-one is buying the loot crates that it's been an embarrassing waste of their time.

This is actually an interesting part of the evolutionary process. If people do buy the DLC and loot crates etc.. then eventually other developers will follow suit. Similarly, if the game bombs because of it then it'll be a costly lesson for them to learn.

This game really, REALLY needs to be boycotted.

Awful DLC practises, shocking profiteering on a colleagues death, can a company get any lower.
would make more sense to start a campaign to ensure ALL money from that dlc goes to the family thread boycott.

There was already a funding system available for the treatment before the gentlemans death to be fair. I believe it's raised over $130k so far.
What money the family gets and from where is pretty much a moot point at this point, it's more to do with the fact that WB are using his passing to fill the coffers.

^^ then again it's money the family would never see and it's a fairly fun but pointless dlc nobody is forced to buy. I don't see this anywhere near as black and white as you do clearly.

although I still hate DLC in general..

Well, I do have the Mithril set on pre-order.

I'll definitely be waiting to hear what they have to say about this on the Giant Bombcast. They've already been somewhat critical of the loot box thing, so it'll be interesting to hear their comments when they come round to playing the full game.
