About time! This is great news and I hope it succeeds. Turkey has been going to the dogs under Erdogan: it is time for secular forces to remove the Islamist and restore the Turkish Republic.

Agree in sentiment but in practise could be temporary anarchy or long term civil war in long term.

BBC is absolutely terrible, where's the breaking news?

Always the same with coups like this - at first the BBC barely say anything beyond parroting official lines until its clear one side or the other has won out then they jump full on it :S

Suddenly the backdrop falls down to reveal a beach in the West Indies, the President gets up from behind the desk and runs away in his jacket/swimming shorts combo.

If he's doing it now then it may well actually be from a plane if that reddit feed is to be believed. Apparently he's been refused a landing in Istanbul and is now trying to claim asylum is Germany.

*pinch of salt* at the moment.
