Monzo/Starling Banking/Revolut

There's literally no reason to do that. Use Kraken or similar to buy your Crypto.

Revolut are just allowing you to speculate on price movement, they're not a service for providing actual Crypto.

Sadly this is not a option for me for various reasons. I just want to buy small amount of coin each month and send it to my wallet don't really care about fees I was using ATMs before.

Tried making a payment with credit card for the points and it asked to enable curve frontend. Ended up being charged extra fees for it. Wish it was more clear when enabling frontend in settings (I should have googled first but still)

WUT!?

Generally taking cash out of a credit card is a really silly idea, both in terms of fees and affect on your credit rating.
Taking out cash on a CC is the stupidest idea going.

Credit card the way to go when travelling. Covers all bases.

Do not withdraw cash with it in the UK though!

The top pick as it charges no fees or interest on spending AND overseas cash withdrawals, provided you repay in full. Plus there are a couple of perks – you get 0.25% cashback on almost all spending & it also gives five months free access to Apple Music, Apple Arcade, Apple News+ and/or Apple TV+. Just diarise to cancel after the five months is up if you don't want to pay the subscription fee.

Plus the perfect exchange rate. That’s hard to beat.

I still disagree with Clarity getting the write up it does on MSE no less. There are fees for cash withdrawals, simples.

The new BarclayCard is a proper challenger though and has legitimately no fees for cash. This has broken the paradigm of no cash withdrawal on credit card.

It’s interest on the clarity card that’s annoying. However the Barclay card is the clear winning and with the protection you’ve got with a CC over DC abroad it’s a no brainer for me.

I just used the Revolut single use virtual card for an online transaction and was impressed - however, it got me thinking; how do refunds work with this type of card as it's single use and destroyed after the transaction?

The cards last until you delete them and effectively act as debit cards tied to a bank account. You can send funds to them and it'll appear in your account. That's how I moved my crypto funds when Natwest went all emo on cypto exchanges a while back.

Not sure how this has happened but my mum got a Starling account and was going to use it in America. Day 1 of being in NY somebody was using her card in Europe somewhere.

She’s never used the card, it’s never left the house until she flew out.

Luckily she can block the card easily after talking her through it.

I moved to Chase a little while backed to take advantage of the 1.5% interest. Looks like other players have overtaken them in terms of interest rate offered though.

Zopa are now offering 1.85%, or a tad more if you lock it in for a while.

Do you think Chase (or anyone else) is likely to up their rates any time soon?

Rates are going up all the time since the BoE have been, and will continue, raising the base rate for some time yet.

3% base rate is what a lot of people are predicting by the end of the year, with some more rises in 2024.

Though one guy from the BoE recently indicated they might not be as aggressive as some are thinking, so no one knows exactly, but it'll definitely be going up from where it is.

Was surprised when Starling announced an online banking website but having used it the past couple of days it really captures a lot of the look and feel of the app so I actually appreciate it now.

I'm currently with Chase but I need the feature to download recent transactions to Excel (.csv) which they don't offer.
Do Monzo or Revolut have this feature? It's annoying enough for me to want to close the Chase account and switch to a service that provides everything I need.

Starling does, various options, MTD, 3/6 months, custom dates, PDF or CSV.

Did anyone catch that their Amazon NewDay account is being closed? Unclear what the replacement is.

Does that mean the best credit card (non-AMEX) is the BarclayCard Rewards card now?
