Monzo/Starling Banking/Revolut

Did anyone catch that their Amazon NewDay account is being closed? Unclear what the replacement is.

Does that mean the best credit card (non-AMEX) is the BarclayCard Rewards card now?
NewDay have said they are replacing it with their own rewards card which will have same cashback rate as the Barclaycard Rewards and Lloyds Cashback cards. You have to phone them on the automated service though to request it.

Interesting - I did mean from the Amazon points perspective though.

The NewDay app is garbage and so is the website tho. The BarclayCard Rewards has pretty great FX too.

They said they'll convert any Amazon points you have left to Amazon gift card once it closes. I personally prefer the NewDay app to the Barclaycard one. Also, NewDay card works with Google Pay but I also use the Barclaycard for online purchases especially for FX transactions.

There was a message in the NewDay app about the closure and what happens etc.

I just wanted my 1.5% at Amazon :D

You are right, it is a shame Barclays put so much cash into their own contactless app; as whilst they beat Samsung Pay/Google Pay to the market, it always had its days numbered. I guess this is why they haven't embraced it yet...

The NewDay website is what drives me up the wall. Hover menus, everytime I login it asks me to "setup", it never tells you the right Direct Debit amount (always the min payment even if you are paying in full)...

Edit: MSE is real garbage nowadays. They only have a Sainsburys card with crap Nectar points and a Lloyds card on their comparison page.

The cards last until you delete them and effectively act as debit cards tied to a bank account. You can send funds to them and it'll appear in your account. That's how I moved my crypto funds when Natwest went all emo on cypto exchanges a while back.

Sorry to comment on an old topic, but in Revolt there is the card you are talking about, but the actual one aimed at online shopping is a disposable one. That is as soon as it's been used once, poof it's gone and a new one with a new number is generated.

I've had lots of issues, although nothing showstopping for me personally thanks to having work arounds. For example, paid for labels to ship some eBay items and it required authentication for spend in the Chase app.

The app gave me notification but wouldn't actually load the authentication part of the app. Thankfully I could pay via PayPal.

I'm forever getting service disruption warnings in the Chase app, and they really need to sort it out because app/service reliability when you're an online only bank is vital. I never had an issue in the two years I was with Monzo.

Mine was fine yesterday but has ground to a halt today, can do the grand total of not a lot with the app.
Luckily I've got my card set up in Curve so any authorization needed is done using their app and not chase's.

Yep. Me and the missus both having issues logging into Chase. Not been impressed with the app (ignoring this issue) in the 6 months or so I've been with the them.

The only reason we moved to Chase was the high interest, but they've not increased it so are in the process of moving everything over to Zopa.

Replying to this a bit late, so you may already know:

There was a mention on Amazon's own website that they would be releasing details 'soon' of a new points card with a new partner. But no details on when. Obviously it would have to be a brand new application for that card once it exists, as Newday are retaining the customers as things stand.

Hoping for a partner with a better website and app - and a card that supports Apple pay.

Yep, though I've not experienced any issues?
I haven't really either and it's the first time i've seen a distribution notification in the app but from coverage it seems the outage is a bit hit/miss who it affects.
Am wondering if it's security related or just network type failure...

...so are in the process of moving everything over to Zopa.
Assuming it's just for savings? Have you had an issues with them? Can you create different "boosted pots", so lock X amount away for 95days for the maximum interest rate and then Y amount in an instant access "boosted pot"?

Yep, just savings. Had no need for the banking facilities with Chase; we just wanted the highest interest rate.

Only signed up to Zopa last night so still waiting on checks before we can use it properly.

do any of these give you free usage abroad on a credit card?
None of them are credits card no1
Those that do currency often have a premium for weekends no2

If you want to spend on a credit card abroad get a BarclayCard as they include preferential rates and 0% cash advance (i.e. you can withdraw cash on it without a fee).

I'm allowing my new day to close.

Could do with cutting a credit card and the new one has poor cashback. So I'm not taking up the new card
