Monzo/Starling Banking/Revolut

I'm using my Starling card on a daily basis, but more as a security buffer. I've got a slush fund that I transfer into it, say £100, and I use the card for contactless purchases and Google Pay. My thinking is that if I lose the card or phone or get scammed or whatever, then all I can lose is the relatively small balance.

I'm not sure if I'll start getting my salary paid in and pay bills etc.. but time will tell.

Haven’t even used my Monzo card since getting it. Until they offer the ability to have joint accounts and standing orders to/from pots, I can’t see it changing either.

Shame, because I want to like it.

I've moved my Revolut funds to Starling as of this morning. Revolut not working with Google Pay is a bit of a downer to me and from the looks of things Starling seem to be more serious looking ahead. Yet to get my card though so early days and all that.

Revolut's party trick is the Forex aspect but if you don't use it for that, it can't hold a candle to Starling.

It has a very strong whiff of "we've already lost interest but it's making money and we like money so we're skating by" whereas Starling feels very professional and solid.

They recently added both of those things (beta).

The standard is £250 per day.
Only letting me do £50 at the moment, maybe they need to verify my account first on their side.

Still not quite there for me. I meant direct debits (not standing orders :o)

1) no ability to set up a direct debit from a pot - this is the big one
2) creation of a joint account doesn’t replace your existing account so you’d end up with a personal account (which I wouldn’t use) AND a joint account
3) no ability to share pots in the joint account

I understand some of these features are “coming soon” but I’ve had the account since January and only now they’re adding them.

Worryingly, it seems they didn’t start investigating joint accounts until May but have been saying “coming soon” since I signed up. I wonder how long I’d have to wait for it to be fully baked.

I don’t mean to be negative... if I was single this would be an amazing account/app, but I like to keep our family finances tightly controlled. Having standing orders to move money around is all well and good but I’ve never kept direct debits in the same account as my current account for the simple reason I want to funnel it out of there the day after payday so that the bills are covered (and what’s left is ours to spend).

Well, I'm sold on Starling. Moving my partners and my pay to it today and all direct debits. Will report back on any issues in the future but this is infinitely better than the steaming pile of poop that is Natwest.

Anyone using a joint account with Starling where one person is on iOS and the other Android? I (Android) am setting up goals and payees which show fine on my partners iOS device except for any pictures I have added. I assume it is a bug, I assume the pictures would be stored in the actual account so should show on any device you have the app on?

How are you doing this? Current account switch? I can easily switch my primary income stream but others and my direct debits are going to be a royal PITA.

Ok, after reading this thread a fair few times I have now applied for a Starling Bank account. So easy to setup and will await my card which is due next week.

So I am currently with First Direct, if I request a switch via Starling is that all I need to do or do I need to tell First Direct first?

Nope, switch does it all.

Will I get the £100 back from First Direct for leaving though?

edit: ahh pooo I didn't realise it was only within 12 months. Been with them 2 years haha
