Monzo/Starling Banking/Revolut

Used Revolut in Italy last week, flawless and easy.

I really want to move to Starling though, for the direct debits, but I am finding having 2 cards with Revolut so useful for the joint house account with the missus. If only they did that.

Why not get the starling joint account?

The only caveat is that both you and your missus need to have a Starling personal account to get a joint account.
But then select the joint account in the app and it will default to it from then on out. Stick personal account card in a drawer and forget about it or alternatively, don't even order one. You will soon forget that the account even exists.

Looking to bin off my Natwest current account, doesnt seem much between them but leaning towards Monzo at the minute. I am only going to use it for day to day spending. I have a Halifax Clarity Card for using abroad.

I've been using my Starling account as my main account for nearly a year now with salary paid in. Never found the need to go back to a dinosaur bank.
Any reason you use it for your salary? The interest rate is quite poor I think.

Also, any reason for Starling over Monzo or just a personal choice.

Having looked at them on the websites, starling does look awesome.

Anyone had issues with Monzo misreporting the total amount spent in a different country? I've got a "your trip to France" item on my home page which says we spent £1870.15 but we didn't spend that much. The Monzo app even says in the summary tab that we spent a lower amount during that period - £1571. Last payment in France was made on Saturday 1st so all the transactions have now had a chance to finalise. I have checked multiple times now and I am sure it's incorrect.

The starting balance was only £6 and during the holiday I periodically put lump sums into the Monzo account from my Halifax account amounting to £1575. So the very most we could have spent was £1581 which again the Monzo app agrees with on the summary tab - under "Income" it says £1581. I suppose I should give feedback to Monzo that something has gone wrong with the app here unless I am being particularly thick.

Edit: One possible explanation are the pay at pump fuel pumps in France that pre-authorise 120 euros onto the card before you fill the car, and then the actual amount is taken from the card after. I remember I got a Monzo notification that I'd spent 120 euros each time I used one of these. I think this is what has happened. It has counted these pre-authorised transactions, and I visited the pumps a few times during the 1800 miles!

It mostly gets spent through the month and anything left over gets transferred out into one of my building society savings accounts elsewhere.

I chose Starling as they gave me an account straight away unlike Monzo who were still faffing around with beta testers and waiting lists. Although I do have a Monzo account now but I haven't used it, might come in handy as a back up sometime.

I'm going to Ireland next month for a week and was thinking about getting a Revolut account for Euros but it seems there is a monthly charge, not interested in accounts that have monthly charges.

Starling have started to introduce Wonga type loans, which has put me off them a little bit. There's also been as few issues with duplicate payments for some people and I have personally seen payments show on the wrong day (I thought I'd been double charged at one point).

I've scaled back my use of the card until I'm a bit more confident in it's suitability for everyday use.

I had the same thing in the US with petrol stations and also with meals where i added a tip to receipt after paying by card, they take two payments and one is refunded

I have noticed in the 6 months of using Starling this has happened to me twice.

A double payment shows up ie

PlayStation Plus £6.99
PlayStation Plus £6.99

Which is confusing but it's only taken one payment?

Not really gave it too much thought.

Never had an issue, I get my salary paid into this account and it's been perfect, the UI is perfect, when ever I log into Halifax to transfer money over it's like going back 5 years :)

Just got back from the US and thats how tipping works in most places (Unless you pay on the machine they now seem to have on tables in some places)

They initially charge you the meal price then you write the tip amount on the receipt which can then be processed a few days later.. really hate this especially using Revolut card for holidays as you can have random amounts for tips come out days later.

I would hardly call a loan with an APR of 11% a wonga type loan

I use it for wages and everyday use and never had a problem.. just used it for 2 weeks in the USA and it was flawless
