My horrible RMA experience

Exactly. Just because you can do the bare minimum and comply with law isn't standing up and saying "actually, that isn't fair to our loyal customers, we're going to do things a better way".
Always used to be the case and I’m reasonably confident they will here. This thread has too much focus on it for them not to.

DOn't know what the difference is between various electronics, but if a retailer like Richer SOunds can do their own 6yr guarantee (which is chargeable) for electronics, then for expensive items I don't see why other electronics retailers can't do the same. They even refund it after 6 years if not used.

Wonder what the RMA rates are these days for various gfx cards, have they got worse etc. PAin for OCUK if more stuff is faulty and you have to deal with the retailer first.

Anything expensive or more than you can afford to use - use a credit card for section 75, let retailer argue with the credit card company. 6 months and offered a partial refund - that isn't an acceptable length of time for something to last. If it doesn't work it's failed.

Probably more to do with the amount of cards sent back for coil whine and folks perception/expectations. Seem to swap those out alright, odd when something actually fails completely in a short time, you get little recompense.

A whiney card still works.

Good luck to OP, hope OCUK do you right, otherwise £2k cards with essentially no enforcable warranty will have a few people binning off PC gaming and going console. 6 yrs warranty from Richer on an OLED and a £500 console. You could large OLED, console, full VR and a lazyboy for less than a decent gaming PC.

If consoles adopted full keyboard & mouse integration as an option other than controller - PC gaming be dead.

in all my yrs on pc's ive never come across this deduction for time used, any items with issues ive had, have been replaced or repaired. so new one on me, is it store specific?

It is normally a last resort option, normally repairs/replacement are offered by the manufacturer, I've raised this with MSI as to why such was not offered.

They haven't offered £400, they offered £379.16. Neither is enough to buy a 4070. Also, a replacement 4070Ti was offered and then withdrawn due to a 'miscommunication'.

My motto is if something is offered, the customer gets it, I've requested this happens, customers cannot be held accountable for our mistakes, hopefully this will now be actioned.

I've also requested a review is made of RMA policy to ensure no more repeats of this (though partial refund is normally last resort, so something went wrong here), it is important to me and rest of OcUK that we can delivery Unique customer shopping and service where on the odd occasion if things don't go as per customers expectations they can reach out or make us or aware of it by the many avenues of contact we have, then it is important we don't only keep that customer happy but we then do what is required to make sure there is not a repeat.

OcUK wants to be the best in our field, but we are not perfect and neither is anyone else, but if we can work with customers and make changes for the better of all customers, that is what matters. :)

I had it happen to next many years ago with a company called Komplett.

Bought a mobo from them (ironically enough, an MSI one), the USB controller packed up, and they wouldn't replace or repair, just offered me a partial refund. I paid around £105, and they gave me around £75 back.

Couldn't be bothered with arguing, especially after checking it was legal.

They pulled out of the UK shortly after, needless to say, I wouldn't have bought anything from them either way.

i remember them. i can see why they gone out of business

So this is what the comment in my RMA thread was referencing, yikes! I've bought a bunch from OcUK over the years and all been fine, had to return stuff a few times too and no real issues but all it takes is the one experience from someone to put others off. Glad I got the FE 3080 Ti so my RMA went to Nvidia direct, it's the manufacturer that provides the warranty period, so quite why they push you back to the retailer boggles my mind. repair or replace with a like for like product - They need to follow the KISS protocol.

As a reminder to everyone, manufacturer warranties are not legally enforceable, because there is no contract between you and the manufacturer, the contract is between you and retailer, under CRA2015.

The calculation Gibbo shared on page 9 is correct and complies with CRA2015.

While it is disappointing to see ocuk only offering the bare minimum legally, I think MSI are to blame more. I do not believe it is ocuk's responsibility to honor the MSI warranty. Perhaps there should be a huge disclaimer when purchasing GPU's that manufacturer warranties "may" not be honored.

you would think that retailers/manufacturers factor in a 3-5% RMA hit when calculating profit margins but many of them act like they dont.

Anyway, I wont be buying any MSI products in future.
