My new Dell 2405FPW - pictures & first impressions

So what happens within the four-year lifespan of our warranties? If it breaks say in 2007, do we get a refurb 2405 or a new same size, whatever model may be out version?

If it breaks after 30 days, you get a refurb and if they have any in stock, the same model. If they don't and it's discontinued, a newer model but same size.

I had a viewsonic before my Dell, got it replaced with a slightly newer model. 8ms rather than the 16ms version I had.

I've just got round to calling them now, had to endure a polite and helpful Indian gentleman going through the error checking process. I had to give him the order and serial numbers twice but that's not too bad considering you can barely make out what they are saying usually.

I have a replacement on its way on Wednesday :) Hopefully there will be no problems with this one or I'm gonna flog it and save for the 30"

Will that be a brand new one?

Also what drivers do you use with this monitor - the standard plug and play ones from graphics card, the ones from cd (20/12/2004) or are there better ones available. Have tried looking on dell site but cant find any driver downloads for the monitor

I hope so but the likelihood is that it will be a refurb :(

Also, my disc had no drivers fo the monitor at all, just a readme telling you how to change the res (as if you didn't know) so I've left it as Plug n Play and it seems to be just dandy

I'm not sure just where but they are on the Dell site. I remember reading it someway back in this topic.

It seems that they don't provide a driver section specific to monitors but the driver is under systems. I found it here and installed it, seems to be ok :)

Same as mine, but when I did my Windows XP updates the next day there was a driver for the Dell there under hardware updates, and its now seen properly under device mangler as a Dell 2405 FPW Digital.

Is there any support for ati cards with the spit screen maxamising windows thingy, like nVidea has? (mentioned around page1 i think)

Maybe a 3rd party software? =/

Cheers

Chadd

If you put the cd in and then let device manager search for driver then it finds the dell driver.

Also sent an email to dell about warranty policy. They rang me back saying that there is a 3 dead pixel replacement warranty and for all warranties they send a BRAND NEW monitor out with a courier who picks your old monitor up and leaves you with a new one.

You will have to fiddle with the resolution of the game - maybe change it to something like 800x600 or 1024x768 and see what happens? I haven't quite worked out why the scaling menu is grayed out for some things.
