NEARLY 2 WEEKS WAITING: Nissan GT-R is finally mine!

Hi guys,

So today went to RAF Lyneham https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.5031136,-1.996364,3376m/data=!3m1!1e3 to do a charity supercar rides day.

People paid £10, £20 or £30 and we took them around.

This setup was possibly the most fun I've had in the GTR to date, taking the first corner as a giant arc flat out before heavy braking into the second and down the straight. Then a run where I was getting upto 155-160mph before heavy braking again, around the bottom (could take this verrry wide, it was massive) and up the final zigzag. Massive run off everywhere so really no issues pushing the car, and by the end of the day I was getting small 4 wheel drifts and tyre squeel on every corner.

This was my second time around, but some guys were doing some recording later on so hope they have one near the end of the day where I really got confident.

Great bunch of guys, a lot of fun and will be going back again.

Heres a quick walk around of some of the cars, including a huayra

Looks like fun! Invite only event for guests/visitors or...?

The event itself was for military and family or friends.

If you have a nice car or something people would love be hooned around in, anyone was allowed :)
Sounds great!

Went last year and it was brilliant. This year is the first year they are selling tickets to the public.

There were loads of GTRs there - some club or forum I assume

Worth looking into if you want another effectively 'free' track day for a great cause and to have some good fun

£55k was raised last year, fairly impressive!

Nice i see some K&N cone airfilters in there Jon so i am guessing circa the new version 6 ECUTEK remap which should give around 615 bhp Litchfield stage 3 :D provided that you have an exhaust fitted ;)

And obviously a dead gearbox, what HP did he have when he launched that ?? I bet that is costing a small fortune to put right

600 or so.

From what I understand he turned traction control off and things went badly wrong..

Probably wheel hopped or it gripped and just snapped/broke stuff. A lot of modern cars are quite fragile, particular gearbox as generally mass produced to reduce cost at the expense of strength and quality.

Is it safe though in a GTR with 600+ to just mash the gas pedal to the floor, I assume it will launch in a safe but fast manner than you can do over and over again?

When a friend gave me his keys, every set of lights I just floored it, the thing just shot off like a rocket with absolutely zero fuss and it felt smooth and quite friendly to the car. He said this method is like 2.8-3.0s to 60 every time, no strain, LC breaks things and is like 2.6-2.8s so for the improvement absolutely not worth it or the risk involved.

End of the day very very few cars can dispatch 0-60mph with so little fuss and so easily, best thing is its so repeatable. Though saying that when I had the PDK 911's/Boxsters, launching them was just a case of bury the loud pedal hard, every time off you go, zero fuss and very very quick indeed. :D

Yup, completely safe to just mash it to the floor as long as TC is on, and yea, most likely wheel hop and when it gripped up it pumped 540lbs of torque through the diff and it said no.
