Need for Speed: Shift 2: Unleashed

Does the FFB not give you some help? When I used to drift with a G25 in Live for Speed the FFB would bring the wheel round quite a bit before I would apply the finer detail to make the slide work.

I seem to have sorted my fps choppiness followed usually by game crashing or simply freezing. It's one of two things I did, or maybe both helped. I cut and pasted my steam apps game folder to another place and then uninstalled steam and reinstalled it. I also ticked run as administrator in the shift2U.exe, where previously I had ticked run in windows 7 compatibility mode, (which allowed the game to actually start since it never got past the first screen without it). Not sure which cured the problem, but it's running consistently smooth now (and starting first time) and hope it stays that way because I had all but given up on this game! :)

How do you know? I only downloaded it today after I installed the game. The page looks the same as it was earlier today.

I had only come across it when I posted the link, so it could have already been up for a day / few days previously.

How long do they support patching these? better than Codemasters feeble 1 off patches? This is my first Need for Speed game since Most Wanted.

It's EA, so probably not that much better tbh.

Shift 1 only had 2 patches, so who knows how many EA will sanction this time around.

at least 2 for sure.. one is already released and 2nd is coming with stuff like DLC support.. which sounds promising for future DLC - even if paid :)

Why did they change the way AA is done on this? it's still not clean on high. It's better than normal but not perfectly smooth like GT5 photo mode.

Granted I can't see it when I'm 10 feet from the screen with all the motion blur/vibrations. It's only when you examine the screenshots to then be disappointed.

Shift 2 uses a deferred renderer which means normal msaa methods don't work with it at all.

If you have a fast Nvidia card then supersampling works a treat afaik. On ATi cards forget using ss atm.

CCC's MLAA looks worse than the ingame methods imho, and causes the same performance hit.

Although they are meant to be adding a cpu-based MLAA method that SMS have been working on with Intel in a future patch, so hopefully that should improve things on ATi cards if your cpu is up to it.

I wish game companies would stick to standards no matter what it is but at least thats good it'll be rectified. It just takes the ohhh ahhh out of screenshots. At least you don't see it in action. I assume an X6 AMD will be fine when this update is ready?

I have everything on high except motion blur and shadows. Those are both on medium until ATI fixes CrossFire for it. Even on one card the game really isn't heating up the 5870. 55c after a few hours. The Crysis series kicks out more heat than this game.

The X6 will be fine, no worries there.

I expect it'll probably only be dual core cpu's that aren't able to take advantage of the new MLAA, but we won't really know until it makes an appearance.
