Netflix here we go again.

...um because i wanted the money? Just like in your scenario you wanted Netflix?

If you took out a loan while using a VPN, you didn't make any false statements about your location in the application, however they wrongly assumed your location based on IP address and offered you a cheaper interest rate as a result, then no I wouldn't deem that to be fraudulent.

I thought you had to pay with a Credit Card with a Turkish address or something? There's other checks you have to find your way around, no? I don't think they are just assuming from your IP.

It would be if you knowingly activated the VPN to get the cheaper interest rate.

It is very simple. If you actively and knowingly do something to deceive so that you can benefit from it, you are committing fraud.

This goes for any situation/circumstance in life and doesn't necessarily have to be based around legal definitions.

When I registered my Netflix account while using a Turkish VPN they didn't ask me for my location and you don't need a credit card. There were no other checks to find my way around, no phone number or anything, literally just an IP address.

How do you prove they knowingly activated the VPN? Guilty until proven innocent? Are you telling me all the people who use VPNs to get cheaper flights are committing fraud?

This has nothing to do with anyone proving anything.

Do you mean all they have is an IP? Because you've opted not to pay with Credit Card? Or are you saying, I VPN to Turkey and I can pay with my UK card?

They don't require a credit card for payment, I pay with gift cards. I think you used to be able to pay with a UK card but not anymore. I only used the VPN when I registered the account and haven't used it since.

Fraud is looking to benefit by deceit, amongst many other things.
Fraud does not have to be criminal it can also be civil.

As said its hardly crime of the century and the most likely thing Netflix would do would be to simply disable the account.

I think people are getting hung up on the fraud angle. Its a contract being formed by two parties, as such they are inviting you to form one without them actively participating in the contract formation.
As such they are assuming and accepting that you are following the terms of their offer. If you lie in order to get differing terms then you are acting fraudulently.
If they are simply assuming and have nothing in their T&Cs (which form part of teh contract your accepting) then thats their fault and as such your not committing fraud.
I dont know anyone who has actually read the T&CS.

Personally I cannot be bothered to try to save a few quid on Netflix. Doesn't seem worth the agro personally.

Yes, so they only use an IP if that's all they have. You have to go out of your way to use another payment method and even then, it's Turkish Gift Cards, right? So, they check your IP and your payment method, both of which you're actively taking steps to hide/show as different. You're suggesting they need to literally ask you where you are, and then you would own up?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I wouldn't/don't, but I would accept it's sneaky and possibly fraudulent. I wouldn't be trying to blame them for not trying hard enough.

I wouldn't say I was going out of my way to use a different payment method, gift cards are always my preferred payment method instead of giving out credit/debit card details.

Oh, my bad. You're using regular UK gift cards that you already have and use for other things?
No they're Turkish gift cards from Bitrefill, purchased and redeemed with a UK IP address. Once you've registered your Netflix account with a Turkish VPN they ask for Turkish gift cards and I don't think it can be changed without making a new account.

Agro? It bills you monthly the same as if you were in the UK. It works the same as if you bought it in the UK. You don't have to connect via a vpn each time you use it. It works like a normal UK account. Sign up once and it goes on working indefinitely depending on payment method chosen.

As for saving a few quid... it's significant enough that people will go on doing it.
UK premium new price = £17.99
Premium via turkey new price = £5.89 (£12.10 cheaper a month. 67% cheaper.)

When you do the same as the above for various other streaming services, it adds up to quite a lot of monthly savings.
Spotify family premium as just one example is also £17.99 a month in the UK. There are people that set this up several years ago (iirc around 2017) via an Indonesian VPN which are still working to this day. It costs the equivalent of under £3 per month for the same family sub.

I don't have a turkish credit card nor any gift cards.

Honestly I am not that cheap to care about the cost of netflix.

How so? If they were asking for UK gift cards and I thought it was worth it, I'd be buying gift cards from the exact same place.
Honestly, I'm not sure who you're trying to convince at this point. Using a VPN to spoof you're in Turkey and paying with Turkish Gift Cards. You're wasting your time if you're trying to convince me you're not going out of your way...

Neither do all the people that sign up via turkey vpn typically.

Cool. I'm not trying to convince you to care, but I would say you and many on here come across as slightly peeved that others are able to pull off the feat of paying less for something. I mean to be fair it is highly complex. Much common sense and a grasp of English is required.
