New Gaming Rig Advice..

Well that's trim- Windows 10 have it under optimising the drive.

Just keep windows on this drive and everything else on the conventional HDD.

We could do other tweaks/setting but if your brother is buying your rig, you would not use that drive in it (other than a separate cache drive - another topic for another day).

(busy at mo but will answer as best i can)

Are them results decent or should he think about getting a better ssd over time?

He is only buying the CPU, when a motherboard on The Bay becomes available.
Still struggling to find anything.

hmm what to eat.
Faggots for me tonight with "Gastro" chips and bread and butter to soak up the Gravy.

God damn it! :)

I doubt i'm going to have time to eat tonight - i have the kids, wife in meetings until 9pm, and i'm up to my eyes in paperwork.

You could probably eat the greasy cardboard of that fried chicken from the other night and i would salivate...

No, fast food deliveries where i live - bloody, rural areas and it's idyllic countryside and zero fast food convenience (apart from a dodgy Chinese)!

Well, Doombar for starters, main and dessert... (perhaps a bud for starters - mix it up)

Even offal based cuisine sounds appealing :p (They are tasty - haven't had faggots in years)

The faggots went down a treat!

Ordering my parts tomorrow. What is the difference between the two Gigabyte B350's? One is slightly cheaper than the other but both with exact same name.

Still think I should go for the 3000mhz Team RAM?

Ended up with a supermarket Chinese thing.
I ended up with 4 empty bottles and strewn paper everywhere...

My stomach is not impressed with my lack of food choices.

I'll take look in a sec...

Tough one - people are having more and more success hitting 3200 with certain brands/sets (The higher spec Team memory and Corsair - but still very hit and miss) - but the the May update should bring further improved memory compatibility/optimisation.

But the reality is anything close to 3000Mhz is going to be blisteringly fast. 200Mhz may not be worth the extra pounds for you, as you wouldn't notice the difference, plus your budget already over its limit as is :p

I'll do some digging and let you know before you order - but you don't want to spend a premium on guaranteed 3200Mhz.

What speaker setup do you have and what type of headphones do you use?

As you use USB headphones you may as well save yourself £20 - as the superior onboard sound of the 3 is one of the main selling points (if i was buying - as i use sennheiser 3.5mm headphones)

The 3 version has 3 x PCIE x16 (redundant for your use), more front USB ports, and gaudy flashy board lights (a personal bleah for me) - but has superior audio, headphone amp in particular.

However - as you use a USB headphones these will use their own audio hardware - bypassing any of the motherboards hardware, making the superior onboard sound redundant.

Detailed specs beow

Get 20 euros STEAM voucher with the Gaming 3.

Although just noticed this from one of stulid's posts (the guy is component/brand wiki) - may apply to none 3 too - but you would need to check.

Nope only applies to the 3 version - so you could get the 3 and claim the steam vouchers, which would add up to the £16 extra.

Win win.

Managed to find the Gaming3 for £104 with a bit of searching - it's registered for the steam deal as well.

So today is the day! What RAM shall I go for? Seen some 3200mhz Vengeance that's pretty cheap.

Mornin to to Plec. Pancakes for breakfast :D
What's this breakfast that you speak of?

what is your monitor spec and do you plan on keeping it? (Although you have the GTX 1070)

How important is the window on your case - i.e. will internal aesthetics important?

Memory - May update yet to appear - but 3200 still hit and miss on different brand/batches if not g-skill (Samsung single rank memory). But as mentioned the premium is not worth the MHz - but we can look into it if you want to.

Our guide for now - for price, quality and look (if required?):

Costs can be cut almost everywhere...

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £777.00
(includes shipping: £13.20)

People have had recent success with Team Group Dark Pro 16Gb which would only be £30 more - but, there's no guaratee that it will be the same batch and you may not get it stable. And although it only £30 - it's also only 200+Mhz, plus, it all adds up.

You should try it some time!

My monitor is an AOC 144hz 1080p Monitor, I probably will upgrade to a 1440p monitor somewhere down the line but won't be yet.

I think we've had a little bit of a mix up here. I already have my 550w PSU, I am planning on using the 1600 cooler for the time being (it's meant to be decent for a moderate overclock) which will save me some money.

Already have a 1TB HDD as well as a 250GB Samsung SSD.

I think you may have thought I've sold my whole rig to my brother? I only sold him my graphics card and kept everything else - he will be buying my CPU when a motherboard becomes available.

In terms of how it looks in the case, I really don't care, as long as it works and it gets the best performance, that's what's important to me.

So we're looking at something similar to this for parts needed?

My type of build...

We can even get rid of the cooler as the 1600 cooler will do a job for now (seems to have good reviews).

I can understand why people like it looking nice but I think some lose sight of what's important - how it performs! Mines under my desk anyway so would never see it.

Sensible for now - the 1600 at stock it will trash anything you throw at for some time to come...

I treat my components like a self-harming prisoner in isolation.

Padded case, no window, and all lights disabled.

I have been looking at the 3200mhz RAM from Vengeance, don't know if that's had any luck with people?
Some have had success with Corsair - as to where they got it, batch, memory used (make within the unit) etc isn't always clear.

It's a lottery but the Ryzen Agesa update due any day may help resolve a lot of issues - Clicky another Clicky.

You could delay the build for few days?

I could do but I'd rather not, I'm having withdrawal symptoms as it is :D

One positive out of all this is it's made me realise how much I enjoy fiddling around with computers, been looking in to IT Technician courses.

I think we are about ready to order the parts, I think I'll take a chance on Corsair 3200mhz, in sure one day it'll achieve good speeds even if it doesn't in the short term.
