New Man Utd Manager Search

For me, we need a plan from top to bottom....

How are we going to play.... and what formation....

Then buy players that fit that formation/style of play. Stop just buying players that are good players but don't fit.... Square pegs/round holes etc

He needs to be given time, even if that means 12-18 months to pain 5/6/7/8th in the league etc.

Needs to clear out - Pogba/Mata/Matic/Bailly/Lingard as a minimum. Cavani and Ronaldo will probably also go, can't see Ronaldo sticking around for another year.

Honestly - not sure where to start at the back - could honestly see a brand new back line if he wants to be ruthless but who's going to take McGuire/Shaw/AWB after the fee's we paid for them and the wages they are on.

Massive deadwood clear out needed for him to be able to do anything positive. Squad isn't good enough, starting XI not good enough, attitude not good enough.

Needs at least 3 starting defenders, 2 midfielders, 2/3 attackers. He basically needs a completely new team bar one or two and the keeper :p

I think that's part of the issue, there's players in there we can't shift and due to their high wages, that'll then mean any new signings will deservedly want to be paid similar amounts. To sort things out would require a huge financial loss/write off which is always going to be tough to stomach.

Excited to see how he reacts to the players and who is shipped out over the summer. I really hope he does well, if only for my own sanity as a fan!

I hope he gets Bruno back to his best and brings Sancho up to something resembling the player he could be.

The players you that you'll be linked /buy with will be key to seeing if anything actually changes - if it's the links of Kane etc then nothing will have changed. You need to start at the back by getting players in that are comfortable with his style of playing out

Nothing will change with ten haag be the same convo in 6-12 months time

“Ok.”

We might as well just disband the club and give up then.

I agree. I think Rangnick and Ten Hag will be targeting younger more appropriate players, marquee players haven’t worked and carry greater risk.

I can't see how Man Utd can reduce their silly wage bill. They have to go top end in wages to get the big players to want to join them.
The past number of years you go to Man Utd for the pay day not to compete at the highest level.

The managers not the problem thats why

how many managers you got to go through to see the real issues

Woodward was a major issue. He’s now gone.

As long as the Glazers provide the money and keep out of footballing matters, it’s all fixable. Not ideal at all but that’s the reality…

Ten Hag is very different to previous appointments - managers trading on past glories, this is something else.

This seems to be what they are starting to do. Bring in a manager with a strong focus on team building and tactics and long term thinking.

This should in theory happen as ETH has been at Ajax where they work in a very regimented way and if you don't suit the setup then you won't make it or will be moved on. It still boggles my mind that we got Ronaldo and Sancho last summer. Neither of which fit into the way that Ole had us playing. Mind boggling stuff.

Pogba should be gone in theory but there is still a nagging suspicion that he will sign a new contract with us because no other idiot would pay him what we are offering.

Mata, Matic, Lingard, Cavani are all gone in the summer.

There will be a load more that are shipped out. Wouldn't be surprised to see Bailly, AWB, Ronaldo and Jones gone as well. Potentially 9-10 players will leave or be sold.

I think he will work with Maguire, Shaw, Varane and either a new RB or a current one until summer '23 and then find replacements for those not working out.

I imagine that he will make 2 CMs a priority, a CF and a RB probably. As long as the expectations are not too high I don't think that 4-5 in and 9 out would be that bad. I still want to believe that Martial could be a good player for us even though everything we know about him suggests otherwise.

I think Sancho will thrive under him. I think Bruno is very much at risk unless he can change his game a bit. I think Fred will be OK, McTominay will be a squad player which is all he should ever have been. Rashford is done but I don't think we will be able to sell him for an amount the club will accept.

Lots to do and lots of change coming (hopefully)

You 100% need a replacement for Maguire, if you think it's comedy gold watching him now just imagine the fun we'll all have seeing him in a team that likes to play out from the back - CB and a CM should be your initial top targets. Botman and Tchouameni would be the ones I'd go for in your position

With a functioning midfield and attackers that contribute something defensively I think that Maguire et al will become a lot less of a liability. I imagine that he will be replaced eventually but I think there are bigger issues to address before they get to Maguire. There is always the chance that he will go for a pairing of Lindelof and Varane or bring in a cheaper CB for cover.

Liverpool do just fine with 2 full backs who are not particularly good defensively and Klopp has managed to turn a number of bang average CBs into quality ones alongside VVD.

Who knows what he will do but as long as he is ruthless and decisive I really don't care who ETH replaces. I have very little lover for any of these players.
