** NEW SAMSUNG ODYSSEY G7/G9 MONITORS 27-49" AVAILABLE TO PRE-ORDER **

Hi all quick update: Got the G9 today. No QC sticker.
No idea if it's 01 or 02, how do I find out?
Set it up (GPU is 2080Ti), came with firmware 1004, updated it to 1005.4. Setting up and updating was easy.
Resolution 5120x1440, 240hz, 10bit HDR. Works but gsync doesn't. There's a paper in the box saying gsync might not work at this res/hz.
Resolution 5120x1440, 120hz, 10 bit HDR. Works with gsync as expected.
I have my nVidia settings as low latency: ultra; vsync on; gsync on; and frame rate limit 1 less than the monitor refresh rate, meaning I played about with 119fps/gsync on and 239fps/gsync off.

No flicker whatsoever. Everything I've tested so far with 120/gsync on has been perfect as expected.

I tried everything with 240/gsync and vsync off, but I didn't like it. I'm one of those people who is VERY sensitive to tearing/frame rate dips or spikes, so the moment I notice it I can't stop noticing it. I much prefer lowering the refresh rate to 120, and having my settings as I normally have them as listed above, gsync and all. Buttery smooth.

One bug I noticed: at 240hz, when you disable HDR, this happens (see picture). I have to reboot to get rid of it. At 120hz this doesn't happen. It's like the very early days of 4k where windows was fooled into thinking it had 2 monitors side by side.

Sorry for the spam: I think this issue is Windows or GPU limitation, rather than an issue with the monitor. I think that the 3 series card will have 240hz/gsync support and hopefully not have this HDR issue.

Any questions or want me to try something specific, let me know.

Firstly, its all about the games or game you intend to play, and there are a few games coming in the next 1-3 years that I feel for me, personally, would suit a big screen experience, but still on PC.

Secondly, yes, the new consoles are a possible choice, but only the XBOX Series X interests me, but with a PC you get all the same games, and much more, PC for me is a all in one media solution, feeding into my high end hifi digital dacs feeding them HI RES audio etc etc via USB.

Lastly, about the resolution, I feel you have it all wrong. Having owned a 65 inch, 4k HDR Samsung flagship now for sometime, the whole point of a large screen, with a high resolution, or at least one of the BENEFITS, is the ability to sit closer to it while still maintaining a sharp image, where the pixels do not stand out. That for me is the point of 4/8k on a large screen. 4k on a 24/27 inch monitor for me is a waste of time, hell, I have been happily gaming on a Samsung 120hz gaming monitor which is 27 inch and 1080p for years without any issues, immersive and easy to drive with a GPU, all while sitting at desk distance, that for me is a fully extended arm, shoulder to finger tip, and you cannot quite touch the screen. I do not see the pixels, text is great and so are games.

Yes its partially subjective and down to personal usage, but I stand by what I said about 4k large screens, they allow you to sit 3-4 feet away and still enjoy a high pixel density, sharp image.

Most people sit too far away to see 4k or even HD (screen size vs distance vs RES) so no I do not have it wrong, they may as well be viewing SD and you have just said above you have to sit to close to a 65" 4k TV to benefit.

And 3-4 feet from a 65" screen means a lot of head movement so I would not like that esp PC gaming.

I am not having ago at you, I fully understand and hate the current monitor situation and crappy LCD in general but I will never need/have a TV sized monitor for my PC use and there is a reason the curve works on larger monitors over the now defunct curved TV's.

Don't have space for large size monitors but:
I specifically bought 27'' 60Hz IPS 4k Dell U2718Q for Cities Skyline or Anno 1800 type of games, now have gone for 27'' 1440p 240Hz G7 for FPS shooters.

I mentioned the TV size because that’s what I use as a TV, but with the ability to sit closer via a sofa, not talking about desk based PC gaming.

I would go to 55 inch max, preferably a little less, on a desk, at the right distance, could work for me.

Have you noticed any Bezel separation on your unit? thats my big worry personally.

Slight weird problem: when I boot up, the mobo beeps 1 long/3 short (GPU error) and then proceeds to boot up as normal. Only problem is that I can't see POST screen nor can I enter bios to change anything. Windows loads up fine and everything else is working ok.

Any other owners had this issue? mobo is Asus Maximus XI Hero.

The monitor taked too long to be detected, I get a Window Ding on powering it off/on and the G-Sync Pop up in Notification Area, added to it moves all windows around as if just connect for 1st time/ I assume its a RES change that moves stuff around.

Yeah I figured that’s the case, it’s annoying.

Confirmed with OC on Thursday I am expecting mine Monday but not had any dispatch note yet. Might be Tuesday I guess now. I was number 50 with a pre order 29th June. They were expecting 57 yesterday.
Not getting mine now. Not sure what happened might have been a miscount on my queue position or they didn’t get 57 I guess. Will call Monday and see where I am and if they have any idea on the next batch timings.

I think folks are a bit too precious when it comes to this (each to their own i get that), but its a monitor nothing more.

Heck I even have 1.5 inch light bleed top left side but you literally have to get out of your chair and sqench up close to see it, effected area hasn't got bigger and no way I'm returning a pixel free gorgeous display.

I've no other issues and I love this thing, infact I'm building a new office with this and table in the center of the room mafia mob boss style with old desk in the center of the room, so when folks walk in, that back gorgeous white surround and RBG changing colors rather than up against a wall hiding it.

Looks so damn cool. I frickin love this thing warts, price, issues and all. Its a work of art.

Its an expensive £1000 item that should be near as 100% perfect added to the fact you stare at it for long periods of time but if you want to reward Samsung for poor QC you are "more the fool" and they along with other vendors will continue to put out crap.

Again, I respect your opinion, but respectively dont call me fool, they fact that its not 100% and more 95% is something I'm happy to live with versus being a negative so & so.

And it its not crap, and saying so only allows to exabriate why a lot of folks are so worried bout about such minor things, when it doesn't effect actual usage in the slightest.

If unhappy one can always protect themselves by smartly buying 2 months after a release for note 20s high end G9 monitors etc, QC issues is part & parcel of such devices and unfortunately going fwd will always likely be for 1st gen users but THIS DEVICE is not crap, even my flawed model puts anything else to shame.

It really is something else to see in the flesh and I for one am happy Samsung took such massive risk with 1000R curvature, it pure art and function combined.

You mentioned bezel separation and brushed it of as not a big deal as some were being fussy as it is only a monitor by my reading, worrying esp as its probably the most important part of a PC when it comes to visual quality.

art..... sure

P.S I have a G7 (it is going back) so know what the curves looks like and I like it and have had curves before, I would never have a G9 or anything even remotely like it.
