New Star Trek series - 2017

Apparently there will now be 15 episodes and there will be a talk show after each episode like walking dead one called talking trek.

A good time to explore would be just after undiscovered country film. A new peace with Klingons, the struggle for both sides to accept with occasional engagement to be expected during the peace to settle down. Romulans probably trying to thwart it somehow. Ent c is around or is it b. Its a good place between kirk and Picard.

There's been an idea that was pitched a couple of times by different people to do Trek about a hundred years after TNG/DS9/Voyager where things are much darker and grittier, the Federation is beset by enemies on all sides and is much reduced, the Klingons having left, etc. That sounded good to me, you could have had a big background arc, lots of tech, less of the smiley happy Federation where everyone has a happy ending.

do we need one before The original series ? after Enterprise ?

or would it have been better to do one after Voyager ?

i saw something on facebook today, but it looked different from the above trailers

I would prefer after Voyager. But to be honest I am happy with any Star Trek TV. Just as long as it is good.

Will give it a watch even though the trailer hasn't exactly blown me away, glad Netflix have picked the rights up otherwise it'd wouldn't air over here as I couldn't imagine Sky working a deal out for it.

Given how long Klingons have looked like Klingons you would have throught they'd stick with the look they have, given that its set in the prime universe.

Trailer of Discovery is here in HD:

It looks good, but....... Asian female Captain with non English as first language gives me Dr Sam Beckett flash backs of 'oh boy'.
It certainly don't look or fit into the normal universe not with the current tech or bridge, its more JJverse looking then anything.
That movie effects feel is there which is nice though. Overall I would have just preferred a JJverse series or even better a 25th Century Trek show they could have used the existing special effects and bridge even, but will give it a try naturally.

Also we have another comedy scifi series from Family guy/Ted maker which takes the micky out of trek and scifi in general

Looks good like an galaxy quest tv series

This explains the entire why Klingons in the original series had smooth foreheads and why Enterprise, TNG, Voyager, Ds9 and now Discovery have bumpy foreheads:

I watched Enterprise recently but was still confused till I read the above, what a non bumpy headache but props to Trek to solve the issue overall.

I think what explains it is that the special effects and makeup wasn't as good 50 years ago. Klingons were basically Asian looking with a nod to Genghis Khan.

They're giving the Klingon's the JJ Abrams Romulan makeover? By completely ruining the iconic look. It might be cheesy these days but you can keep the similar whilst making use of improvements in makeup and CGI.

So...it's a TOS prequel but with JJTrek style technology, Klingon makeup that's drastically different to anything seen in Trek canon before, a ship that's an ugly rehash of a Ralph McQuarrie Enterprise design for the canned Planet Of The Titans movie in the '70s...

They went after fan productions like Axanar to defend this???

Gotta ignore the make up and 50 years of lack of make up or CGI otherwise your head will explode :)

I love treks work around too the age old klingon bumpy head mystery, its creative and tied in the genetics wars.
