New Star Trek series - 2017

Looks like a pike of arse, much like how that BSG re-visit ended up. Why do they do this and dirty great memories?

It doesn't have the ambience of DS9/TNG/Voyager, or even Shatner's era.

It wouldnt look so bad if they just gave it an asthetic and feel that made it look like it belonged to the same universe as ToS/TNG/DS9.

The sadest thing about this is if it ends up getting cancelled, the TV execs will think it wasnt popular as people arent interested in another Star Trek series. It will then be another 10 years before someone even tries again.

I fear this may happen too :(

I think the problem is that the trailer doesn't show any characters that grab you. Trek was always full of interesting characters, and the core of the show was the relationships between the main characters alongside the action. A lot of the episodes were about the people themselves. There's just no one in that trailer that I have the slightest interest in.

Wouldn't you need to watch a few episodes to find out whether any of the characters were interesting? Doesn't it also take a bit of time for those interactions to develop?
If you watched a trailer for the first series of TNG/DS9/VOY without knowing anything about them, would you instantly find the characters and their interactions interesting?

I think your opinion is based on the benefit of hindsight from having watched many seasons of the other series, and none of them were much cop to start with.

I'm suggesting that nowadays you need to show that in a trailer. At least introduce us to the characters.

i get why people are being harsh on the trailer but i do think they should seriously consider giving it a go. Star Trek is about great characters. this is hard to show in trailers with a team of people.

got to love M83 in the trailer. Trailers are 1 billion times better when M83 music is used. True story

I just put a random episode of DS9 on netflix and every single character i still knew their name their story even after 10 years of not watching it....

I will be watching it even if I don't like it. Sometimes it takes a while for things to pick up or characters to grow on you.

Love TNG (even more so from about season 5) enjoyed Voyager and Enterprise and thought DS9 was the best of the bunch (except that awful ending).

The trailer just looked off to me. Not certain what it is. Also stop changing things! The Klingons were perfect as they were. Will watch the first few episodes to give it a chance but not as excited as I was :(

TNG>>DS9>>>>>>Voyager>Enterprise>>>Original

Original is too old, cannot take seriously, but I do like the cast and some movies. Kahn..... :)

If the new show can fit somewhere between DS9 and voyager, I would be very happy, but it could easily end up the worst if they mess with it too much.

Yeah, I just want more TNG and DS9. That to me is Star Trek!

Not sure why they couldn't just do another spin off in the same time frame - it's not like the Enterprise was the only ship flying around, or DS9 was the only space station?

Give us some characters we care about, decent single episodes (with the occasional 2 or 3 parter where it adds to the suspense etc) rather than complex multi episode arcs, chuck in the odd cameo from other trek characters/aliens etc, and probably on to a winner.

Agreed.

i agree too. this is also my opinion with spin off films/episodes/games for things like star wars and lord of the rings. we don't need a brand new unexplored time. we want more expansion on a time we already know, with the odd cameo and link up would be great.

i think that's why rogue one did so well. the odd cameo (a few stupid ones could have been removed), and the expansion of a story we already know a tiny bit about. now when we rewatch a new hope, we will know the story behind how the death star plans were obtained.
