New Star Trek series - 2017

I am not sure if they could have made a worse star trek if they tried.
I dont think it matters though given by the series trailer it seems the entire show will be completely different than the first two episodes.
So I guess we all watch ep 3 to figure out what this show is ultimately wanting to be.

But we're going to get the flashbacks anyway if IMDB is to be believed. Main character's settling in will all be about her past and emotional struggles.

Deep sleep 9? The only good bits were a clear reaction to Babylon 5 in my opinion!

you're not wrong there.

anyway, i thought eps 1/2 were 'ok' but the main character was very unlikable.

we'll see, its not like the first eps of tng/ds9/voyager/enterprise were any good - they were garbage and 'some' of those series turned out good.

It has given Star Trek TV series a fresh new look and feel. Something I think that was needed. I have seen a few of those almost fan made things, one made by Tim Russ (of Voyager) which was using the old familiar format and it was just terrible and tired looking and feeling. I'm looking forward to the next episode but I'm a little concerned that all the best bits of the series was in the first two episodes. We will see I guess.

I liked it a lot and will carry on watching.
The 1st scene definitely had the diversity box being ticked though.

its getting tiring this constant need to be utterly politically correct in every tiny detail...

If i was writing this...i would kill off the entire ship crew (eventually got style) and have 1 survivor ...an ugly...limited skill "red shirt" technician who makes up for in intelligence with sheer perseverence.

I would have the ship crash on a hostile enviro planet...most dead or critically injured except him and few others . I would have camera focusing on the main characters still alive and the technician guy as just a "probable redshirt" . Have a few episodes set on here. Then klingons turn up. (even with their cheesy 80s demon horror film look) and have them hunt him and rest of crew. I would have him lose an arm or a leg, a few teeth, maybe an eye (klingon torture or whatever).

Possibly have him earning respect from the klingons with his survival aptness.

Then in a critical scene i would have the federation turn up. But i would have him make friends with one of the klingons (unknown identity) but anyway federation turn up and all hell breaks lose between them and the klingons.

Anyway long story short.. the unknown klingon is son or daughter to a hero/royal figure in klingon lore or whatever.
Helps with peace agreement but is murdered at a critical moment blah blah.

To create characters you give a crap for ...they need to go through hell...GOT and WD know and understand this hope ****** trek understands it too.

First contact / the defiant / voyager (later seasons with all the Borg) was epic. Just make that. None of this regurgitated nonsense.

Have the federation in full scale war and the Klingons / romulans / federation / dominion teaming up against the full force of the Borg.

Watched the first episode..
It's certainly Trek feel for me, not sure why theres no probes though, or why the Captain and First Officer dont have better rappor given 7 years of service, or why the First Officer didnt realise they were walking in the shape of a Star Fleet emblem...

Still, certainly better than the first episode of The Orville...

Just finished Episodes 1 and 2...

Klingons - Look and act Rubbish, They just look like generic Aliens now and they seem so weak, the main guy speaking Klingon sounded really feeble like he was struggling to get words out I actually felt sorry for them buy the end of Episode 2. what the hell have they done with the Klingon ships LOL!!! also at one point my other half looked over at the screen and said "Are you watching the Mummy or something" and it made me realise they have made the Klingons stuff kind of have a look about them a little like stylised ancient Egyptian, the dead Klingon in the sarcophagus for example and the armour or clothes they ware.

The main hero - Michael...really, oh I get it maybe in the future names are not gender specific.... yeah right! being raised on Vulcan by Spocks father just seemed like a cheap and nasty way to tie it in to the original series. over all though I didn't mind her but I really don't get why they want to focus on a single person, it's so restricting story wise.

My main gripe with it is the filming angles and lens flair, haven't we had enough of that rubbish already?!?! and also to much damn talking during space battles and not enough seeing the ships in battle.

Over all I thought it was ok but it doesn't feel like proper Trek at all, I will continue watching it but I have a feeling its going to get on my nerves a bit more.

Disappointed with the way they’ve done the theme tune. Some things should never be changed, and that includes the star trek and superman themes.

Has Michael been mentioned before now, surely she would have been mentioned given her history and relation to Spock/Sarek?

Fuller created the character for this show, so she couldn't have been mentioned in other Star Trek. Apparently there will be an explanation later in the series how Michael came to be raised by Sarek, but was never mentioned by Spock.
