New system for my lad

Yeah , I’m sure he will clutter it up a bit so may end getting another drive probably the 2tb , that way I may set up installations to the larger drive and run the opsys on the smaller drive , if that would still work rather than partitioning , if that can still be done .

Also how do you get games onto a pc these days is it all download , or use steam et al .

I run my O/S on a 200gb partition of a 1tb NvME, it's still doable and tbh I'd recommend it. Windows is pretty good now compared to how it was in the past, but sometimes a fresh installation is necessary/easier when troubleshooting and it keeps the rest of your data intact.

Games are mostly installed digitally now, via platforms such as Steam, Epic, and a few others like GoG.

I struggled to get the case (original aero cool) so just went with the original list bar ram and mb

Aye always a good way to do it I found . Do it with my Mac now , and a partition for windows boot camp .

Always happy to help mate, as are many on here.

Looking forward to seeing the end result, it's one hell of a rig you're building!

just when you thought you had got rid of me,

I ordered everything here last night, then called today , and found out they would hold order until everything in stock, but case originally listed is not available

so found this

Also ordered a Thermalright PS120 from ebay seller, not cheap 57 , but guess it is ok , then panicked , thinking as it never said phantom spirit (did say PS120) it was wrong , is this the right thing

I will be calling OC again this evening to cancel those two items of the list you kindly helped with here !

But just checking ..

I'm not sure why you went to that particular outlet, but just to forewarn you're not allowed to link competitors on here as the forum is owned by the OCUK shop.

The Phantom Spirit 120 is absolutely available for £30-35 elsewhere, despite not being in stock on OCUK.

I'm not sure how much the case is as the link doesn't work, but it is available from other outlets than those you linked for the same price as OCUK.

Thanks for the advice on all fronts grey , well looks like I paid a bit much , and sorry oc , but hopefully I have given them enough runes to be allowed one mistake of forum etiquette .

Any hints as to the other places, I did have a scan via google . But never seen anywhere ?

Update think I found it elsewhere , but not listed as v 2 , just argb and not rgb , which was the only diff between 1&2

Would this be correct ?

Spec

Aerocool Dryft ARGB Black Mini Tower Chassis, Addressable RGB LEDs, 4x 120mm + 2x 140mm Fans, mITX/mATX 59S0

That should be correct for the case if it's the one you really like.

There's not much between the heatsinks, just go for the cheapest.

I would recommend reading an RGB guide when you set things up though, you don't want to accidentally connect to the wrong headers.

This is not enjoyable reading Gray, now I feel I need to look at each item , starting with the motherboard , to check what headers it has , really a standard header would be far better for a simpleton like myself .

So going to have a quick read on the board and fan and case .

The motherboard and case has all of the needed headers, everything is compatible.

Looks like case and fan are RGB and not ARGB, so -12v I’ll pay close attention to board book and fan books .

The only thing you really need to be careful with is to not connect 3 pin headers to 4 pin and vice versa, but everything necessary is included.

According to the store page the fans are ARGB, but you'll be able to tell when it arrives quite easily.

Thank you gray,

Actually looking at the spec for cooling fan it is ARGB, not RGB, so will def look out for that one , is it generally easy to note, read the tread you linked , as was not that easy to see the difference on the connectors , is this just the supplies from MB, or is there PSU to consider also …

I was also thinking about two other things now the stuff is en route. Bluetoooth connectivity as it seems that is not a thing in the board , and also frontage usb ports , oh and one other thing is there a way to get a LAN splitter of some kind , i have found one on eBay 1 to 2 powered at 1000gb which is what LAN here at home runs at ..? And how woudl that best to use, or is there an internal card option for such things.

aye, job's a gud 'un
I've been on unactivated win10pro for over a decade now, no harm, no foul, I'll probably never go to win11 but if I did, i'd go the free unactivated method I don't mind not being able to personalise windows. i just want a working OS, it seems that in unactivated win10 you can personalise things anyway, and, after all this time they ou are running an unactivated windows watermark has disappeared now toot!hough a did run a dodgey program to get rid of that, but I got bit by a windows update that I thought would have brought it back :D
lol , not sure if i need to buy it we run Microsoft family 365 so i can have it on mac so prob get access to it , not looking forward to learning the shortcuts again, i think I was on either XP or 98 last time I was using it , other tha a brief shot of boot camp for steam for a game for the lad…

Thank you gray,

Do you mean a network switch?

I have one on my desk. One hard wire coming in. Then two going out one to pc and one to work laptop.

I bought a nighthawk gaming one which apparently will prioritise gaming traffic but reckon it’s a gimmick and the 20/30 quid ones probably do the exact same
