*** Nintendo Switch ***

Yes, agreed. Its still a decent game, but the other 3D Zelda's are better. I definitely preferred TP.

That said I can also definitely see how some mechanics from it were evolved into Breath of the Wild; so it's one of those sorts of games where they tried something, and it just didn't quite pan out as well as they'd hoped. It does have some cool stuff though; and it gives us an origin story for the Master Sword and other elements from later games chronologically.

I wouldn't say it's a bad game, just not as good as some of the others!

Can't remember much of either to be honest as I played them both so long ago, but I remember preferring Skyward Sword to Twilight Princess. I think it was my first experience of the motionplus at the time so I got on with it quite well. Looking forward to trying it again!

There have been rumours for the last 2-3 years claiming its coming.

The Switch is selling too well just now as it is. They really don't need a 4K machine.

They don’t need a 4K switch and considering their business model for the switch is to port loads of games over from old consoles there isn’t much point. The gulf between a proper 4K capable machine and the switch is huuuuuge. Plenty of current Switch games can’t even hit 1080p docked at 30fps. Giving developers potentially more power to use would probably result in worse games for the base console.

The Switch’s issue is first party titles, not resolution or power. Pokemon doesn’t look a bit **** because of the switch, it looks **** because the developers are lazy. BotW looks amazing and it’s 4 years old. I think the next gen Switch will be 4K or 1080p/60 but that won’t come out for another 3 or so years. Maybe bayonetta, pikmin and Metroid might be launch titles . If you’re really lucky they might make Mario kart 9....

Yeh I doubt we will see a switch pro. Maybe a switch 2 in a couple of years. I hope so anyway, any pro model would be seriously held back.

Hopefully any switch 2 would have a core and premium models to cater for different crowds.
Same hardware but better made, better screen and such.

The pre-orders for Skyward Sword sold out quickly. This is why we don't get much new IP and Nintendo gives us MK8 and so many ******* ports. People just lap up whatever they are offered at whatever price. Here, have a 10 year old game we have done a few weeks work on and that will be £50 please. **** off Nintendo.

This sort of attitude is really putting me off the Switch at the moment. I am sick of being treated like a mug by them. They still haven't addressed the joycon drift issue after 4 years. They still rely massively on ports to cover the huge gaps in their release calendar and they still haven't shown us anything for any of their AAA mainline series since year one.

No Mariokart 9
Nothing about Metroid 4
Nothing about BotW 2
Nothing about Bayonetta 3
Nothing about the next proper Mario game.

Instead, heres a mario game from an old console, heres another one. Here mariokart from the last console, heres a really lazy Zelda port. Christ, at least they put some love into remaking Links Awakening.

Do you guys think there’s likely to be a new ‘Pro’ switch anytime soon? I’m thinking of getting a Lite but I’d rather wait for a Pro if one’s coming.
If there is, it is unlikely to be announced until their next direct in the summer.
Nintendo generally do well at keeping a lid on leaks, so don't believe anything until they announce it.

^ just buy a nintendo console every 3rd generation ;)

My last one was a gamecube so it works for me :p

This.

There are some bitter comments on here, but it's down to when you last had a Nintendo console. In the 90s, I loved a bit of Sega, Nintendo and Playstation (Sonic, Mario and Final Fantasy in that order), but from 1999 onwards, I was a PC gamer through-and-through. In the 2010s, I built up a large game collection on Steam, half of which I haven't yet played :p If I was going to go back to a console though, it was always going to be a Nintendo as X-Box and Playstation titles doesn't appeal to me, and I like Nintendo's artwork in their own franchises. So I now have a Switch and I'm enjoying the 3D Mario titles that I never played first time round e.g. Galaxy and the newly re-released 3D World.

There has been a lot of recent speculation based on data mined from some new Switch games which indicated Nintendo had started requesting higher resolution profiles in games.

But a lot of the speculation is about the new dock having some additional hardware that will improve performance on TVs, so the system can act more like a PS4 Pro in some situations. But it sounds wacky to me because surely devs will aim for the lowest common denominator of handheld play to maximise their potential consumer base, which would make beefing up the dock pointless.

Nintendo messed up with their last console the Wii U. So I understand why they are porting many of the games from that console to this one. They want to make money off the games they spent time developing and not a lot of people got to experience them. They are a business and need to make money to survive and grow. Porting from Wii U gives them an easy opportunity to do this, while then giving themselves longer to create new games further down the line.

I've bought many of the Wii U ports on Switch, mainly because I didn't buy them for the Wii U. Even though I still own one.

I wouldn't have an issue with that if they didn't charge full price for older games or they put in even a little effort to justify the costs. Skyward sword sold 3.4m copies on the Wii by 2011 which I assume was not great but they have sold it on the Wii U and now the Switch at full price and they have done basically nothing to improve it. I would bet my life that any bugs in the original are still present in this one.

As I said, Links Awakening was a fantastic remake and worth every penny. Its a cracking game that they put a lot of love into. I don't care if Nintendo doesn't make as much as they want from a game. I don't expect to be fleeced 10 years later for exactly the same game. In the last 5 years, Nintendos value has increased 4.5 fold. They are rolling in it. They aren't some poor little company that is trying to make ends meet and recover losses to stay afloat.

Nintendo are not the only ones though. Since moving to fully digital distribution, older OC titles are commanding silly prices outside of sale periods these days.

Have you seen how much the older Call of Duty games go for?
