*** Nintendo Switch ***

If the seven year gen cycle is a given - and let’s be honest, nothing ever is with Nintendo - then it’s got a good two years left in it which should see it surpass the PS4 and the GB/GBC. Still a very long way off the PS2 and NDS though. And people were saying it’s a DOA console.
They are talking end of 2024 possibly early 2025 for the new one. I think even if Nintendo wanted to bring something earlier they wouldn’t be able to as the chip shortage issue is going to persist for a couple more years at least. Also I’m not sure there is the hardware out there yet in that package size, power and cost that is suitable yet.

Same. It’s been great for me. I’m looking forward to the new Zelda, Odyssey and MK9. I PC game from time to time still but this has taken over a lot.

yeh i use my switch a lot more than my ps4 and it rivals my pc for time spent, so many good games, shin megami tensai v and ori will of the wisps been the latest 2 :)

I don't doubt Nintendo will milk the Switch for all it is worth. The final year or two will probably have a lot of trash released along with the occasional first party banger but don't feel we are quite there yet.

So I've been playing the new Pokemon Arceus this weekend. I noticed in some areas I'm seeing some awfully familiar purple textures which look like artifacting on the rocks and trees? (if I saw that on my PC I'd be concerned so lol) But if I look most other places in game, the graphics and textures look fine I think (other than Game Freak's poor quality textures in general)

Am I being paranoid or is this the Switch GPU overheating/faulty? I'm hoping it's just the glitchy game... But could it be my brand new 4 month old OLED Switch causing this issue? (which I've probably played less than 15-20 hours on). The Switch doesn't feel hot or anything, so I'm hoping and leading myself to believe it's just the buggy game textures or something idk. I've uploaded some screens so you can see the purple, then a few others where the game looks fine...

Edit: I'm in a new area atm and thought it seemed better, but now I'm noticing blue shadows on rocks etc... You can see the last 2 photos I've just added into the spoiler tags at the bottom. So confused if it's just a crappy developed game, or my new Switch having issues?

I genuinely don't know how people can defend graphics like that. Fine, appreciate the gameplay but this isn't some indie studio making this on a budget.

It's a bizarre effect if deliberate. Looks like something is wrong with your switch. I am not saying that there is just that that's what it looks like with the effect.

@Apex @Plainsong seems to be the case of a poorly coded game (shadows/lighting?). Just found via google 2 similar posts. Laughable the Reddit one the Poke Police have removed it

@fez Me neither! You just have to take one look at BOTW and think there is no excuse for AAA games like Pokemon to look bad. Character models are fine, it's just the environmental textures, draw distance, texture and model pops are in that are pretty awful.

The graphical glitches aside, the game is actually pretty fun and I'm enjoying it still. :)

Tbh it looks exactly how I remember botw to look

I don’t remember neon rocks and trees in BoTW that’s for sure.
If you follow on from what fez said, and then the reply to that, which I then replied to that reply, the conversation isn't just about the purple mistake, but the graphics in general and how they are poor. Vue distance, textures etc.

Nothing to do with the purple error in my reply when I mentioned that this pokemon looks similar to vote, in sense of draw distance and quality of textures.

mines is the exact same. I’m enjoying the gameplay, but the game is not the prettiest and has some dodgy moments.

Exactly. Leave it in the past. That game hasn't aged well nor does it tell a great story or anything. The only value is the 5 minutes of nostalgia that you'll get.

Ocarina of time for instance is a great story, that would benefit from a total remake. Goldeneye however can rest in the past.
Agreed. No interest in that. But Ocarina of Time however I would buy a remake of. Recently got to have a go on it with the N64 online sub. It has not aged well either I would say, the controls are terrible I found and not how I remember it from 1999 playing it as a kid. Loved it back then though.

I am waiting for BotW 2 and a new Mario Kart and Mario World game, after that might sell my switch as it does not get much game time. Lesson learned this time, Nintendo simply take way to long to release their quality games. Next time I will just wait until the end of the generation and get the console then, or buy play and sell console on straight away.

My SteamDeck arrives in about a month and I know for a fact that will get a lot more action.

The DS remaster of OoT is so much better than the N64 version.

Here's a weird question for you all, does anyone know of a game library app/website/whatever for the Switch? Looking on Wikipedia there's a list of 4325 games available on the Switch and I was just wondering if there's somewhere you can flick through them all. More than just a list, say you could filter just those that contain 'Mario' for example and see which games you have or need. Or even cross reference libraries with friends to pick out a multiplayer game you have in common, that sort of thing.

No idea if that's a thing people would want but I'm sure I've heard of similar library tools for old consoles. Could easily knock up my own thing in Excel minus the friends stuff I suppose.
