*** Nintendo Switch ***

I don't know on what basis people have decided BC doesn't extend to physical copies? Is it because they announced BC and continuation of Switch Online at the same time?

I don't think there's anything more recent than that comment of any substance, so not sure why people have decided it's physical only.

If anything, the sentence 'its compatibility with Nintendo Switch' hints at potentially even supporting inter-generation backwards compatibility - i.e. if you played MK8 on your Switch 2, you could play online with people playing on Switch 1 still.
On this - They will have announced this before going in the the Holiday season so people don't hang back on buying Switch games, as they know they'll work on Switch 2. If it was digital only, they wouldn't have even announced this as it would be a mildly new feature that a smaller percentage of users would actually be able to use.

I'm fully expecting all Switch 1 games to work in "docked" mode on the switch 2 in handheld state. (i.e. 1080p rather than 720p if the game allows.)

There's not been anything official about BC support only being digital but there's been plenty of speculation; why not just say its fully backward compatible (Digital & Physical) if its the case; the way Nintendo actually worded it wasn't just straightforward.
Suggestions are that digital sales have slightly edged ahead of physical on Switch (57% v 43% for Fiscal Year 2023); also there's so many games where the entire game isn't even on the Physical Release anyway! Which means without Digital Support many will be totally unplayable in future regardless.

The internet really loves to overanalyse everything, it probably didn't even occur to Nintendo that "Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch" would somehow be considered ambiguous and not a straightforward way of wording it :p

Had some great luck on some raffles lately. Won a PS5 (not pro) the other week and I won an OLED switch yesterday which I'm going to keep.
I wasn't going to buy another one but am keen to play Paper Mario remake and M&L Brotherhood. Plus a replay of Mario Wonder would be very welcome.
Can you pick my lottery numbers, please ? :D

edit: Both Paper Mario & TTYD and Wonder are superb. Haven't played the M & L game yet.

I recently sold the last few Switch games that I had to fund the PS5 Pro. See what happens with physical BC but my first assumption was that it would be digital not physical. Will wait to see what Nintendo say though.

Nintendo UK have put up some "Black Friday" offers. You can buy either...
  • £17.99 = 12mths NSO and get a free code for another 12mths NSO
  • £34.99 = 12mths NSO + Expansion and get a free code for another 12mths NSO + Expansion
Their wording is "bring along a friend" but it's been confirmed elsewhere you can stack the free second 12mths onto your own account. This offer does not apply to buying 12mths Family, either with or without the Expansion. It only works on buying either of the two in the list above.

This is what it looks like on the product page...

If you don't see the bonus item showing then it will be because you clicked on 12mths Family. Just go back to the Individual option and it will reappear!

Always slightly risky buying games around this time of year but then Nintendo games rarely get that bigger discount.
Got Paper Mario TTYD for £34.
I'm not going to bother buying any other games at the moment because I will wait and see if there are discounts and obviously I now have this one.
I am quite tempted by the final fantasy pixel remaster collection though, especially if it I can get a decent discount on it.

Edit. Just find out my 34 quid of Asda reward points can be spent on direct. So that's Mario and Luigi brotherhood for six quid thank you.

So. Four months until we know more about the next gen console. I hope it is good. I have to admit I kinda expected them to announce it earlier and then release it in November but there we have it.

They could announce something earlier - the investor call said that an announcement would be made no later than the end of this fiscal year. So basically anywhere between now and the end of March next year.

I was thinking January for the trailer, reveal show in March with a release in May/June

Now the next question is what will it launch with? We never did get a new Mario kart.

Even if they go back to a more traditional formula, it would be surprising if they've been developing a new mainline Zelda game behind the scenes for long enough that it would be ready as a launch title
