*** Nintendo Switch ***

You're sounding like a blind Nintendo fanboy defending everything no matter how atrocious it is

Not really.

I didn't actually say "this is a good idea"

What I didn't do is lose my **** and rage over the forums about how bad it is :p

I offered a different perspective on it. Big difference ;)

So when travelling i need kill my battery on my smart phone?? And what happens if i get a phone call during a game??

I don't know, nobody knows the answers to these questions as the app and Switch isn't out yet and we are all only speculating :p

Pretty much like what everyone is doing regarding the hardware inside the box.

At this moment in time I think you are actually a Nintendo shill. :p

Funny how close we are to the release though and Nintendo are still cagey with such basic details.

There's nothing wrong with calling companies out on horrible decisions, remember what happened after the Xbox One was announced with loads of horrible features? Everybody kicked off about it and they removed them!

I've been checking all the Mario footage I can find and haven't found any indication or mention of whether the camera is fully controllable or not. Anyone come across anything? As silly as it sounds, that would be enough for me to buy a Switch.

I know! We're being drip fed and some of it is incredibly frustrating but it seems to be working. God dammit :p

I completely agree. I have NOTHING against people calling out at what they think is a bad decision. However calling me a jaded & blinded fanboy simply because I didn't post the same as them is a liiittlle ridiculous :p

I honestly don't see the phone app as that big of a deal. Granted I would prefer some kind of OS integration but think of it this way:

I'm sat at my PC right now and my phone is literally 30cm from my right hand and when on the couch, my phone is always next to me. To spend a few seconds to pick it up and use and app in my opinion will be quicker than navigating through menus on screen.

Remember that when docked, we have no touch screen on the switch, so all match making, invitations each will need you to scroll using the pad. I quite like the idea that instead of that, using a couple of touches on my phone to achieve the same thing.

However this all boils down to the UI of both a matchmaking system in game vs the app design, which could be horrid.

Preferably, we should have been given a choice (i.e both).

Regardless of how you spin it, it's clumsy. Especially in handheld mode. Docked isn't great either tbh - other consoles have a great online experience using a pad. It's also unfortunate that Nintendo are doing it. Their online service has always been awful and giving us something decent/competitive was needed. But yeah, it will probably be OK. Maybe.

Not so much a problem, but an observation. As it looks like the hype train has you, badly. It's one thing being optimistic, but you are starting to sound a little like our own Reggie.

I'd like some of what your smoking if you think an app (as a means of initiating matchmaking) is not a bad thing. It sounds a lot like you believe the line you're being fed, that this method will save battery life.

What happens when you're voice chatting and you get a phone call? Will you need to use your phone on speaker as it won't merge the game audio?

It all seems to be a mess.

Only thing I can see is this....

Yeah, it's a total ballache on both my xbox one and PS4 to create parties, invite people to my game etc, a real chore.

I much rather using my phone.

I was really looking forward to this console but the whole reveal, from price to games and now the online infrastructure, has been like watching a car crash unfold.

You're right, I am hugely hyped for the Switch. Why?

- First console I've owned for years
- First Nintendo I'll own since the original Wii
- It ticks a lot of boxes for me and my requirements/wants in a console.

Does that mean it's perfect? Nope, far from it. Is there a perfect console though? Nope! Can the Switchdo wrong? Of course it can. But...and heres the big one. The console is what I am looking for, therefore I am happy with it and want it. That is allllll there is to it.

Also, part of my job is to make people look at things from different angles and considerations. Rather than focusing on just one persons opinion, but make people consider every option first. That is the approach I am taking here (especially with regards to the app)

I am posting stuff I'm finding from Twitter because I got fed up of the constant bickering of specs and so much negativity in one thread, so I'm just trying to be positive. Some seem to be enjoying it :) - good enough for me!

I didn't say either way. I said "oh maybe they're doing it because of the battery" that was just a speculation. I've seen nothing officially stated with regards to the battery. Nobody has fed me that line. It was just a thought that came to mind, I posted it :p
