*** Nintendo Switch ***

Why is everyone so defensive on the specs.

Watching all the Digital Foundry stuff they have agreed it's quite a lot underpowered compared to the xb1 and ps4.
That's just the way it is and will be proved soon.

Nintendo I'm sure will do great things with the Switch but I'd bet 3rd parties won't and before long (if not from day 1) not make full featured games.
This will effect sales after the initial Nintendo and hardcore gamers buy launch stock.

Even fanboys to Nintendo MUST see how this is looking very likely to turn out.
I hope I'm wrong but show me proof of it doing anything else and I'd be happy.

Ive been gaming for 28+ years (I'm 35 soon) but have zero interest in being a "fanboy" of any system.
I'll go where the games I want are...and hoped for more with the Switch.

Time will tell but early on I'm not paying £350+++ to play Zelda and a Mario game.

I grew up as an avid Nintendo fan, enjoying the N64, Gamecube and Wii. I'm looking forward to seeing the Switch, but, for me, the price is just a bit rich and we can already see history repeating itself from the Wii U with lack of 3rd party support. If I get one, I'll likely pick it up second hand in a year or so, as there are a few games I'd love to play on it, just not for the capital investment that is being asked for at launch.

3rd parties have probably given up all ready as once again they will have to downgrade everything for a switch to run.
Nintendo can't do no wrong crowd will say it doesn't matter but I for one would like to see what Nintendo could do with ps4/pro power, that would be awesome.

There are some interesting wii u vs switch Zelda videos on youtube at the moment, the interior shots have more detail and better lighting on the wii u so will be interesting to see the 2 final versions.

Well no RE 7, no Mass effect and a modded ps3 version of Fifa as it seems the Xbox one/ps4 version is out of reach :p. So yeah 3rd party support ain't looking great.

If the system was close to the XB1 in power it would be easily visible. Nobody saw a game like Ryse and couldn't tell if the XB1 was a lot more powerful than the 360.

The Switch games we have seen look barely better than Wii U games. Expecting it to even be half as powerful as the XB1 just seems silly, it's not how Nintendo have done things for a long time.

Going from 3DS to Switch is still one of the biggest jumps we've ever had in a handheld console.

You mean those handful that have made their stance very clear? Hardly "Everyone".

Waiting for this to do 3DS price plummet. :) Hopefully by then, Nintendo will have figured out where they are going wrong... again.

Total lies imo

They are not bringing the big games like Battlefield etc because the Switch is simply not powerful enough.
Even the FIFA game is a hybrid and not just a direct port from PS4/xb1

I'm not bashing the Switch itself but EA and other big 3rd parties will soon disappear when they can't release their newest franchises and have to make Switch level games that might not sell enough.
It's the WiiU all over again in terms of 3rd party imo

I like the Switch and I own a WiiU but I wish it was at least as powerful as the standard ps4 or xb1 so it's not left to rot like the last console has

need for speed on the wii u was the best version (for consoles) didn't sell much also nintendo didn't advertise it

Had a good think and am also in the crowd that will wait and see. This will now be the first console from Nintendo I've not owned from launch, but i feel burned by the Wii U as an early adopter so I don't feel an incentive to own a switch before Christmas.

Just cancelled my pre order. Zelda just isnt enough although I found out just after I cancelled that the new Square Enix RPG is launch now as well. Looks like avery good game

I will think of you when I'm playing the masterpiece that is Zelda on launch day :D

Went in to add a Pro Controller and standard Zelda to my pre-order today.

I'm getting one at launch even though I have very little faith in it and am underwelmed with what is on offer at launch and what is projected for the futre; I'm getting it as gaming is one of my few hobbies and pastimes, and I like to own as many consoles as I can.

I don't fanboy over anything, but reading comments on facebook and some of them are just cringeworthy at the defence of Nintendo, they'll accept any scraps Nintendo throw into their begging bowl and lap it up. I've heard countless times "just buy an SD card if theres not enough storage" "just buy an ethernet-USB convertor for a wired connection", I'm pretty sure they'd even be saying the same thing if it didn't include a power cable or joy-cons. I hate fanboys.

I'm getting it because I'm sure I'll get enough enjoyment out of it. Hell, up until last week I only had about 5 games each for my Wii and Wii U. I've only just got round to buying games I missed playing when they first came out, such as Bayonetta, No More Heroes and Xenoblade Chronicles.

Please do! To be honest, Ive never gotten that into Zelda. I can see why people love it but its never really done that for me. Theres some good titles coming to it as I love my Japanese RPG's and thats why I love my 3DS so much. I will pick one up but probably when theres a few more games out.

I really want...
Project octopath traveller (LOL with Squares usual crazy naming)
Fire Emblem
Shin Megami Tensei
Disgea 5
Super Mario

Once 3 of those games are out I will pick one up but Im willing to wait for the time being.

I was reading today that Zelda actually runs better in handheld mode than docked form some strange reason!

You've missed the post confirming over 80+ games in dev for the Switch then? :)

It runs higher resolution docked, 900p vs 720p in handheld.

But yeah, in the version available at events when docked, occasional performance drops can be seen usually lasting a couple of seconds.
It could have been a streaming issue but to me it seemed to struggle a bit when there were lots of shadows and grass coming into view at once. Some slight slowdown in combat situations too.

These issues might be ironed out/improved in the final build, but outside of these occasional drops it runs fairly solid anyway - nice improvement over the Wii U version from E3 last year.

It's getting kinda irksome that so many people either misunderstand or are being pedantic.

Wii U is widely thought to have failed because of lack of third party support. Lack of third party support is shorthand for lack of AAA titles from third party developers on the current highest gen consoles... but that is a bit wordy.

A lot of the technically accurate third party titles coming to Switch, are more like what you'd expect indie games on Steam to be like. Top down RPG's with old school graphics. A LOT of the games are ports of older games in a similar style, older, graphically weak.

AAA games means, not just the biggest releases on any given console, but actually the ones with a huge budget where you expect, in general, current gen graphics, good voice acting, a real story, etc, the exciting games that both really sell consoles (like Zelda) that cost a shedload to make from the companies attempting to be at the bleeding edge of the industry.

To me the majority of the games being talked about for Switch are the filler games you buy between the latest AAA titles like Mass Effect, the latest GTA or the latest Uncharted. Those at the AAA games and you buy a console that will have the most of the ones you want(ie you pick the exclusives you want) but then get all the cross platform AAA then you pick up whatever filler games for cheaper you want.

Switch has the filler games and the AAA titles are very few and far between.

Anyway, when people say it lacks third party titles/support, it means the third parties aren't planning to bring any of their latest/greatest games to the platform. EA will bring their 360 version of Fifa with updated names, but not the latest Mass Effect, the latest whatever other big IPs they might be releasing this year. That is what people actually mean when they say lacking third party support.

AAA games won't go to the Switch for at least 3 years because

1 - AAA games costs a a ton to make and they can't afford to put it on a platform where it doesn't have the user base

2 - it takes 3 years + to make a AAA game, so unless the Switch hit that 10million mark by Christmas, I wouldn't expect to see a AAA game before 2020.

3 - AAA games tend to be graphically intensive, that's part of their trademark, as well as being massive, technical advancement in graphic is almost a given. The Switch is still a portable machine, the best they could hope for are if games like GTA5, Xbox 1 version appearing.

But then I don't mind, the "serious" gamers would have had their hands on a PS4 or XB1 already, they've been out long enough.
