*** Nintendo Switch ***

a back up plan for what? the switch in their opinion should be the only plan. Microsoft have never come out and said just in case the xboxone isn't successful we have another plan.

i really hope the switch works out. the idea is great, but as always with nintendo, the games are just **** in terms of options and quality most of the time.

the switch is a really good handheld console, and an ok lounge console. it should sell well if the games are up to scratch and there is enough of them. zelda will be a very good example. As great as the game looks, i'm very much convinced it will be a very dead world. there will be small "villages" at best, with no life to them whatsoever and a very open by shallow game, and unfortunately zelda could be the best game this console will ever get.

The switch is not a direct replacement for the 3ds. That market requires a certain form factor size and battery life. I doubt most Japanese will want to be packing an extra battery pack on their daily commutes.

It more likely to be a comparable/competitor to the Vita and that wasn't a big seller compared to the 3ds. The major plus point being Nintendo IP.

So, down the line a new 3ds comes out with all the great games that comes with it and the switch becomes just a home console with wii u power and ported games :p

This wouldn't of been a problem if it was a powerful console so devs, bar Nintendo, would want to put there AAA games on it. Have one on pre-order but starting to all feel a bit wii-u to me... apart from the fact the wii-u actually had 3rd party AAA games around release.

Nintendo have said time and time again, the Switch is not a replacement for the 3DS. Otherwise they would have discontinued manufacturing of both 3DS and Wii U.

They have always had an handheld console to fall back on since the release of the Gameboy in the 80's.

There's not going to be a new 3DS.

A '3DS successor' if it happens, will likely be a more portable Switch that plays all the same games.

Seeing the very small difference between docked and a non docked Switch then if a 'mini switch' came out with HDMI output and controller support the switch would be dead in the water. Doubt we will be seeing 3ds jumping ship to the swit h like I hoped :(

I think different devices in the same ecosystem could co-exist fine for Nintendo. Consider how Apple releases multiple versions of new iPhone's to suit different consumers. Some prefer the bigger screen, others the portability etc.

The ideal situation for Nintendo is obviously that the Switch is a big success, so they can follow up with new hybrid consoles in the future and won't have to split their software focus across different devices.

The DS brand has weight still but many kids these days prefer sitting with their tablets, the Switch has the appeal and an opportunity to tap into that trend imo.

My excitement has started for Zelda. I cannot wait after watching many of the videos. If Zelda is as amazing as it looks, I could not care less if there are no other decent games for the Switch

I know most people are the opposite but I've always bought systems for a single game.
I got the Saturn for Steet Fighter Alpha II, the PS1 for Wipeout, N64 for Turok, Dreamcast for Soul Calibur, PS2 for Burnout 1, The Xbox for Fable 1 & Gamecube for Metroid Prime.
And the thing is I've almost never been disappointed in the decision. Some of the consoles I traded in quite quickly (like the xbox & PS1), some I kept but that 1 game I bought the system for rarely disappointed me.

I think it almost doesn't matter. If the Switch is successful, in about 2 years, they'll release a Switch-based dedicated handheld called, for the sake of argument 'Switch Go'.
If the switch bombs, in about 2 years, they'll release a Switch-based dedicated handheld called, for the sake of argument 'DS-2'.
But either way, I think it will be a single platform or at least a shared architecture from here on in. And a couple of years will let them improve the battery, refine the ergonomics, expand the library & reduce the price to where the current 3DS users (kids & their parents etc) can feel comfortable to move onto it, whatever it's called.

Folks, I linked my Nintendo ID to My Nintendo, but I cant seem to be able to get the 30% discount (the items Zelda games are still full price).
What must I do?

Thanks.

As far as I can see, you just need to be logged in to my Nintendo, then go to the e-shop & the discounts are displayed. That's all I've done.
Just in case it isn't clear, because I didn't understand at first, Nintendo e-shop is separate to Nintendo official UK store. E-shop is just for downloads & UK store is just for physical + merchandise. The Zelda offer is just for e-shop downloads.

Thanks Ouixote.

Also can anyone confirm, does the Switch come with the top bit of the joy controllers? (the bit with the wrist strap?)

What is this for exactly anyway (aside from the wrist strap) since the shoulder buttons already exist on the joy con controller?

Nice one, thanks Megalomaniac.

You know... I preordered this and immediately thought, nah gonna sell it.

But as time goes on.... I'm beginning to change my mind...

Ok so I'm on the my Nintendo site and trying to buy for example Skyward sword which is coming up as £17.99....

How do I get the 30% applied? Why isn't it showing the discounted price?
