So maybe I'm being thick here. But on the box for the joy cons, there are bumpers that seem to attach to the joy cons. They can't be used when docked, so are they seperate? Do they come with the switch?

Makes them look much easier to use, but I don't want to carry all sorts of accessorizes!

JJust seen above picture, there part of the straps!

I'm tempted to buy another set, with a cradle thing rather than a pro pad. That opens up 4 player mario kart. But the pro pad looks so good.

The bumps attach onto the joy-con controller to make it easier to use but they slide off for when you want to attach the joycons onto the switch itself or dock them into the Joy con grip. (they come with the switch as answered above to the same question which I also asked :))

You are right that the concern about carrying too much is a possibility, but you have to ask yourself which is the best way for you to play when out and about...

I would say the grip stays at home, attach the joy cons to the switch and through the bumps into the same bag somewhere :)

I can see myself using Switch in tabletop mode during lunch break at work, wouldn't need to take the grip. One thing I sometimes miss about the Wii is the freedom you had with placement of your arms/hands.

I think it almost doesn't matter. If the Switch is successful, in about 2 years, they'll release a Switch-based dedicated handheld called, for the sake of argument 'Switch Go'.
If the switch bombs, in about 2 years, they'll release a Switch-based dedicated handheld called, for the sake of argument 'DS-2'.
But either way, I think it will be a single platform or at least a shared architecture from here on in. And a couple of years will let them improve the battery, refine the ergonomics, expand the library & reduce the price to where the current 3DS users (kids & their parents etc) can feel comfortable to move onto it, whatever it's called.

Yeah all possible - It will all depend on how well the Switch does and who buys it, but I think they'll always want the hybrid package to be the leading sku.

Honestly though I think Nintendo want to avoid having an alternative device that does not have modular controllers or (at least) dock compatibility. An updated, perhaps slightly smaller console could be sold without the dock/grip/straps/hdmi to offer a cheaper entry point, sold as a dedicated handheld but with the option to buy into the home console experience.

Is Mario Odyssey a Christmas release?

Q4 2017, so could be close to Christmas yeah or a couple month before.

I had a pre order with Nintendo that I cancelled on the grounds of not enough release games, but can't stop myself wanting a new console so slapped another pre order in with Very, delivery on release day and 10% off for new account credit orders (Buy now pay in 6/9/12 months) - ill pay it off straight away so get the console and Zelda for just over £300 :)

Heads up if anyone else is thinking of getting one, and fancy a bit of discount.

I know most people are the opposite but I've always bought systems for a single game.
I got the Saturn for Steet Fighter Alpha II, the PS1 for Wipeout, N64 for Turok, Dreamcast for Soul Calibur, PS2 for Burnout 1, The Xbox for Fable 1 & Gamecube for Metroid Prime.
And the thing is I've almost never been disappointed in the decision. Some of the consoles I traded in quite quickly (like the xbox & PS1), some I kept but that 1 game I bought the system for rarely disappointed me.

Exactly, for a while I have never viewed a Nintendo console as a "one for all". I buy Nintendo consoles for Mario and Zelda. I was disappointed with the Wii U i must admit.

There is a magic about certain consoles/brands, i.e. Sega and Nintendo, and it's not quite the same with Xbox or Playstation (which I buy anyway). The peak of that magic for me was Ocarina of Time.

Wii U's perfect game is Mario Maker. It's perfect on the Wii U and it is a shame it never got the exposure it deserves.

That game will work on the Switch but not in dock mode, let's hope they bring it out on it because some of the user levels are absolutely amazing.

I think they are saying that to show they have a backup plan.

Back-up plan implies that they fewl it is possible for it to fail. Why bring out a product with such a high risk of failure? It would bode well for future products.

As for the whole handheld thing, its just further evidence that Nintendo are releasing a product without intent and confidence for it to do well. They're holding back on purpose as if it's an experiment. Regardless of how Nintendo sees it, the Switch is a Nintendo handheld.

As for the replacement of the 3DS, keeping the 3DS going alongside the Switch will only hurt Nintendo's sales and success of both. Plus it's well past time the 3DS gets replaced, the new models mean jack for the longevity. Remember GBA Micro? It launched after the DS was released and never took off as well as the other Gameboy variants.

Because that's Nintendo, they have a history of releasing experimental products. The original Wii, Virtual Boy, original DS. One failed, the other two didn't.

I remember when the DS was first announced, people were like "WTF!! A dual screen handheld device! Why!?!?! " Then look how successful it turned out. Nintendo didn't have much faith in it originally. It was a case of release it and see how it goes. If the DS had failed then it would have had the Virtual Boy treatment and we would have had a Nintendo version of the PSP instead.

Don't forget to gorge yourself on all those launch titles! :p

Who cares about launch titles haha! It's got zelda, that's the main thing.

At this time of year we have Nioh, sniper elite, for honour, lego worlds, horizon zero dawn, zelda, bomberman, sniper clips, ghost recon, mass effect, shadow warrior 2 and whatever else I've missed. Plus the whole host of other games we've yet to play, complete or still regularly play.

Their is more games to shake a stick at, personally the switch could release with no games and I'd still be happy. First or second week of March, I'll be getting a Ps4 Pro, already have about 6 games right now for it. I've got so many games and such little time haha.

I got a ps4 pro, pc and 2 kids. Zelda and mario kart will last me the whole year the amount of time I get to play so its cool with me.

Can't wait! :p But seriously, I don't mind too much. But then, I'm maybe part of the problem? :)

For me the Switch is a future investment! And that works for me. But it maybe doesn't work for everyone. As ever, vote with your money! If you're not happy with the way companies do things then absolutely don't buy it and force them to learn from their mistakes I say.

But for me, the 6 month line up is enough atm. And so I'm happy to get it and Zelda.

Which would have been ports from the other two consoles.

i can't tell if you're talking about BF or the latest Zelda, a game designed for Wii U now available on the switch. A game reported to be complete-able in one day with i imagine very little replay-ability value.

edit: I'm not as keen on the black colour. I think the original colours with the blue and red remotes looks much much better and more inviting.
