*** Nintendo Switch ***

Rumours are that it's a 3 min trailer showing what it looks like and what it does. No hardware specs. It's also meant to use cartridges. Mega excited. I was late getting to the wii u. But I'll get on this from the start

People are just going to whine that it's not as powerful as the XB1 or PS4, and that it has a unique interface rather than being a bog standard console.

I don't understand how people are still always surprised by those points.

Happens with all tech, look at the iPhone 7. Rumors stated for months it wouldn't have an earphone jack and when it was officially announced people still act surprised.

but at the same time you'd think Nintendo would learn and not be surprised when it doesn't sell if that is the case.

I'll have a whine if there isn't a console element to it. I've prepared myself that it's going to be a whacky hybrid of some sort.

Not looking forward to detachable controllers though if that's the route they are going to go I have to say.

Less would whine if Nintendo didn't expect similar money for their consoles compared to the competition for a lot worse hardware.

Wii U was still £300 when the PS4 came out at £349.

Because some of us remember the nes, snes and N64 and unrealistically still hope for a return to form!

If it's an uber handheld that's cool. Doesn't fit in with my needs these days, but would be great for a student travelling to mates houses and gaming on the go, and should sell well. To get my attention it's going to need some proper games, though. Metroid Prime, a proper 3D Mario (no more of this bite-sized level stuff), F-Zero, Wave Race, Pilot Wings etc etc

Just buy a ps4 or Xbox one if that's what you want. It's great that we have a company doing something different rather than having 3 generic near identical systems.

The GameCube was a bog standard console and sold the least of the 3 of that generation. Yet at the same time, the Wii sold in bucket loads.

The GameCube didn't fail because it was a bog standard console though did it?

It looked like a purple lunchbox, had no ability to play DVD's or CD's, it had discs that had a much lower capacity than the PS2, it had little third party support.

The Wii sold bucket loads because it attracted a ton of people that didn't traditionally play games, those people now play mobile/tablet games which is part of the reason the Wii U sold like crap.

Unfortunately the companies you mentioned aren't doing that. I want great Nintendo games again, not this more recent focus on party and casual play. Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bro.s were great - that used to be the stuff we were getting all the time in much greater quantities.
