Failure is subjective. It had two of my favourite games on it, Mario 3D World and MK8 so wasn't a failure to the many people that enjoyed them.
I also think you're barking up the wrong tree with the competing thing. This looks like a carbon copy anti Nintendo rant that we've all seen so many times before, but cool if it's not for you you dont have to buy it. What did they need to come up with if this isn't it?

Cartridge is not necessarily a good thing, but that said memory costs and even ssd have massively come down in price and speed has improved so memory card may not be a bad thing nowadays! Hey can obviously be customised, look at m.2 and msata ssd. Tiny!
The Wii U was a failure, this on the other hand, I think he's off the mark, by a large margin too, this is something very different, and at the minute I am very interested in it.

Exactly. How do you define it? By sales figures its done better than the Xbox One albeit that came out a year after it. My last Nintendo was the N64 but this does look pretty cool. People should know that graphics, FPS and resolutions aren't the be all and end all. NMS looked amazing but was complete **** for example.

Meh. If they improve on the Wii U, I'll be very very happy.
Only in the west, in its home land its still one of the top selling consoles and last i checked was out selling ps4 and xbox one.

No it hasn't As of june 30 2016 Wii U sold 13.02 million consoles, the Xbox One in March had sold just over 20 million.
I get that Nintendo loyalists still hold onto the fact the WiiU was the best thing ever, but to the wider gaming public, and public in general it wasn't.
Wow, 3 million consoles sold in Japan, what an achievement! All the consoles do rubbish in Japan.
But that's enough, we don't need to beat a dead console any more.

price is going to be a key as ever, i really think £250 is the max
for this, anymore and it will stray into xbox/ps4 territory.

Was it a commercial failure? Yes.
Is it still my favourite console since the PS1? Damn right.
If the Wii U ends up just being a prototype for what looks to be one of the most exciting consoles in a long time then I'm sure Nintendo will be happy. Just don't **** this up.
