Failure is subjective. It had two of my favourite games on it, Mario 3D World and MK8 so wasn't a failure to the many people that enjoyed them.
I also think you're barking up the wrong tree with the competing thing. This looks like a carbon copy anti Nintendo rant that we've all seen so many times before, but cool if it's not for you you dont have to buy it. What did they need to come up with if this isn't it?
Well not really as a console goes it was a failure, it didn't sell... yes it had a couple of decent games but overall it was a failure. I've owned every Nintendo console going (apart from Virtual boy) and maybe it's my fond memories of the Snes/N64 and a hope that they may return to that form that leads to disappointment.
I don't know what they should have come up with, something revolutionary and not an evolution of the Wii U to start with.
I hope as more info comes available it will change my mind. At least the reveal seemed more mature than usual. I want to see their networking/party features and them hopefully drop the Mii things. They need to get that right for this to work not just the console.
