*** Nintendo Switch ***

I never got into zelda. I've always known I should play it but never really got around to it. I've always had Nintendo for Mario and a few others and pc and xbox for the rest of my gaming. I played the tutorial for OOT as a rental. That said I'm looking forward to this. In a way I'm glad the Mario game isn't releasing because it forces my hand.

Also as to the nonsense of being judged for playing in public....come off it.

Although I've specifically stayed away from the previews, seeing the hype surrounded from what sounds like an absolute masterpiece of a game...I can see why they decided to go with Zelda over Mario as release.

Not saying the hype wouldn't have been there for Mario. But for me I know I'm buzzing way more about the potential behind a Zelda than a Mario.

Mario's I've always enjoyed. Zelda games I've loved. That sums it up for me.

You'll all have to tell me without spoilers if it's epic or not :P

Not long to Friday folks!

(Genuine question).
It is fair to say that Zelda is a triple A title from all the reviews etc and if it is better than OoT like Edge suggests, then this will surely cement its place as a classic.
So my question.. in the history of videogames consoles, how many "classics" were released alongside a day 1 release console?

Yes, like almost every Zelda game.

That's a big if, but it could become a classic regardless.

Yes, most of the major consoles launched with at least one brilliant game. Here's my personal list of top "classic AAA" launch titles:

NES: Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, Excitebike
Master System: Hang-On
SNES: F-Zero, Super Mario World
Mega Drive: Golden Axe, Columns
N64: Super Mario 64
Sega Saturn: Daytona USA, Panzer Dragoon, Virtua Fighter
Playstation: Ridge Racer, Rayman, Wipeout
Dreamcast: Power Stone, Sonic Adventure, Soulcalibur, Sega Rally Championship 2
PS2: Ridge Racer 5, SSX, Timesplitters, Tekken Tag Tournament
GameCube: Luigi's Mansion, Super Monkey Ball, Wave Race, Star Wars Rogue Leader, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3, Crazy Taxi, Burnout, Sonic Adventure 2
XBox: Halo, Project Gotham Racing, Jet Set Radio Future

I'm going to stop there as this is taking too long, but most consoles launch with at least one "killer app" like Zerlda BoTW.

The one is red is all, one of the all time classics.

I might be making this up but originally this was supposed to have dock mode and portable mode wasn't it. The dock mode was going to be a boosted power mode.

Is this perhaps nintendos strategy for the switch 1.5. Release a dock that improves the performance when the switch is docked.

I popped into Widnes Game a few weeks ago and they'd sold out of their allocation and didn't expect to get more. I wouldn't think Game would be a good bet, you'd be better with Smyth's.

It does have that feature for the launch console.

The power difference is mostly used to increase the resolution from 720p to 900/1080p when you move from the handheld to the TV.

I've struggled with some of the older Zelda games as they've often felt too restrictive, whereas with something like Oblivion I had much greater feelings of discovery.

BotW though looks precisely the open sort of world I want to explore, can't wait.

I assume that is simply giving the handheld bit some more juice as opposed to the base station actually adding to the precessing power directly. That was the impression I got from early stuff about the switch. Sort of an egpu-esque solution.

Its more that when removed from the dock and in handheld mod the CPU speed is lowered as is the resolution to use less battery power. Rather than boosting it in docked mode.
