*** Nintendo Switch ***

Looks good. Just hope it gets proper third party support and hopefully Nintendo release more games for it then they did the Wii U.

This will complement my PC very well. PC for 4K/FPS and Switch for Nintendo exclusives and portability. No need for PlayStation or X-Box ;)

Will more than likely be picking this up on release myself. Sold my Wii U about a year ago as the only game that I wanted to play was the new Zelda which I thought might as well play on the new console.

Hopefully we get a new F-Zero game :)

Looks interesting enough.

Game library and price will be the decider for me.

Hopefully Xenoblade Chronicles X will be available so I can play it "out and about".

I think Nintendo shouldn't have launch/launch zone issues because clearly what they're going to be able to do now is treat Switch owners to the Wii U catalogue they've missed out on - there's easily 20 or 25 absolutely AAA titles that will be well worth a straight port.

Port over the good stuff from the Wii U and you've just hit the ground running.

It's easy to see why they have gone this route as it's Japan that's there main target and in Japan it's handhelds that own the market

I was beginning to wonder why there were no Japanese people in the video but then the sports guys appeared near the end. :p

I think it's a very clever idea. I've been using nVidia shield for a week now and it's a great little device. If this is an improvement then it will be pretty good. When in docked mode it could in theory have access to GeForce Now and have an instant library of streamable games.

I'm interested in the 3rd party controller potential. Won't be long before someone makes bigger ones to clip onto the side which will be more comfortable when handing out to friends and playing on the move etc. :)

Just chatting with friends and the possibilities are great for this for multiplayer. Just rock up to your friends with your Switch's and have them all play together in co-op or multiplayer online together. Looks like a great device.

Also works wonders for the man at home who doesnt have a man cave and cant game whilst the Mrs watches TV. Great move being able to undock and carry on playing when Corrie comes on! :D :p

Is zelda still relevant now? Games like witcher 3 have elevated that type of open world fantasy gameplay

The Witcher 3 is a game certified for adults and even then its appeal is narrow.

It's marketed towards male teenagers.

This is not the market Nintendo are exclusively going after. For that crowd, they will leave to the PS4 and Xbox.

Zelda has a far wider appeal right across age demographics and is more appealing to women, because of this, Zelda is big part of Nintendo's strategy.

I still feel in this day and age Nintendo should market there products as entertainment toys (which they originally where) instead of even trying to go for the older teenager/adult market. I feel they would still get enough of the adult market from a nostalgia(me included) point of view.

The Wii was pretty good from that point of view, the world perceived it as a toy and it sold accordingly (I will add it was my least favourite Nintendo console). The marketing needs to just focus on what makes Nintendo good (kids games) and keep the price cheap to make it affordable as a Christmas present/birthday present or a casual adult buy for playing your favourite childhood franchise.

Looking at the price of the Nvidia Shield I hope that is a good indication of cost at £170 as that should be the ceiling of a Nintendo product.

They're not really that similar. LoZ has always had a strong platforming and puzzle solving element, while games like TW3 and TESV:S are more about exploration. Aside from being open world and having a fantasy setting, they really have very little in common.

Though maybe you're right. Maybe the franchise isn't all that relevant. It's a bit like an ageing rock band releasing a new album after a long hiatus - fans old and new are extremely hyped, but the majority have moved on to something new.

I agree, the only game which I would say is close to Zelda in terms of gameplay is Darksiders which to me just felt like an adult version of Zelda.

I'm interested in the idea of the Switch but as before I can see it failing quite hard.

I like the idea of playing a sprawling JRPG at home and then playing it on the train when I go to work. However. it definitely won't be a day one purchase until I see what games will be released in it's future.

It could be like the Wii U and a handful of good games but the majority being ****

I will be getting this one day one. I'm not really fussed about 3rd party support but I hope because of what Nintendo are trying to do with the console. Devs wont use it for shovelware or mobile game ports.

I don't want to be playing Asphalt 9 or Modern Combat 6 on this. Same goes for Super Mario Run.

Yes I agree with what you're saying, I didnt mean it would replace other devices and become part of your day to day, but people tend carry 3DS and tablets around in their bag so can't see there being a problem here when the occasion arises.

I don't typically take the 3ds out with me, but there have been occasions where I've been away from home and it's been nice to have handy, and i've left the tablet at home because my phone fills those needs while having cellular. I've also attended a few Monster Hunter 4 gatherings with the 3ds.

I can see the size being off putting though. I much rather take my 3DS with me than my vita, and this is bigger than a vita. I also worry about the screen on the vita too, but tend not to give much of a thought about the 3DS in my bag.

I get why they have done it, I've heard more than one story of people actually playing their Wii U's on planes using the power socket, so there is obviously a market for it.

Been able to do that for years with the Wii U, that isn't a unique feature and can't see them trying to use that as a main selling point

Their new console looks amazing.... I think Nintendo are about to take over the whole industry with this!

Yeh I forgot that was a feature of the Wii U. Haha. This is a better implementation though however.

More importantly this is better marketing!

I think if Nintendo hadn't ballsed up the marketing so much then the Wii-U would have had much more success. It just sort of arrived and not many knew of it and those that did thought it was more of an accessory to the Wii. Rather than a whole console of it's own!

This has had a proper announcement. Is already hugely anticipated. Blogs are talking about it everywhere. :)

I'm very excited.
