*** Nintendo Switch ***

Wouldn't mind some advice... its been a long time since I owned a Nintendo console.. the N64 was the last. I'm curious if its worth getting the switch though... what do you guys think. Id mainly use it as a portable hand held device...how do you rate it when using it as only a portable device?

I think it's best to wait for the launch hype to die down and hopefully some digital prices will fall as it seems us early adopters get stung with high price games.

Hopefully Zelda will keep me going, loving it so far and has made me realise how bored I was on Horizon on the PS4 the other day, so generic!

For me it's Zelda, not sure about mk8 as I had it on Wii u and hardly used it (great version ofc), then Star dew valley, Mario and maybe splatoon

Has anything been said for Wii U digital backward compatibility? I have a few games digitally tied to my Nintendo account and playing windwaker hd would be awesome

Horizon generic? Lol really?

Is Mario actually going to launch this year do we know?

They havent shown a lot considering its supposed to be months away.

I've used mine primarily as a portable and think it's great. There are compromises though, it doesn't have any media or streaming apps, or a browser so as long as you only want it as a games machine and not a tablet replacement then it is very good.

I found it hard to play the 3DS as the screens were so awful and the resolution so low but Zelda looks great on the Switch, has a few frame rate issues but is amazing in my opinion.

It really comes down to the games though, are there many now or coming soon which really appeal to you? If not then I'd wait until the library is fleshed out with games you want. Personally though I'm loving Zelda so much but still have so much to explore that I can't see me playing anything else for quite a while.

As a portable, it's the bee's knees. Only issue is the price on par (or worse) than home consoles and currently lack of games. Zelda alone won't keep you entertained forever, wait for more games.

Horizon generic? Lol really?

Compared to Breath of the wild it's pretty humdrum

Horizon Zero Dawn is a work of considerable finesse and technical bravado, but it falls into the trap of past Guerrilla games in being all too forgettable. For all its skin-deep dynamism it lacks spark; somewhat like the robotic dinosaurs that stalk its arrestingly beautiful open world, this is a mimic that's all dazzle, steel and neon yet can feel like it's operating without a heart of its own.

I thought mario was holiday season 2017.

It's only worth getting now if you're happy with getting only Zelda now. In one years time - will a switch and Zelda be cheaper? Maybe you'd get an additional game bundled in but I expect that's it.

If not in a rush, wait until towards the end of the year. By then there will be a lot more software and any qc issue will likely be iron out. If however you like what you see with Zelda, just buy now. It will keep you busy and very happy for a while :)

To me it is an awesome portable console. Best by far and it will only get better with time.

There's a vid on youtube showing quite a few issues with the switch, people getting loud whining sounds, controllers having a ton of latency to them, the console not recognising when game cards are plugged in, video corruption, the console locking up repeatedly, joy cons not having a good connection to the tablet and feeling wobbly when attached, not to mention the retarded issue of the dock scratching the screen. Apparently adding 2 adhesive strips of velvet to those rails inside the plastic shell was too much for Nintendo to contemplate?? Seems to have an unusually high amount of issues for a Nintendo console. Vid is called "Nintendo Switch painful launch". Has some swearies so can't link directly, 7.5 million views and climbing.

See this is the thing that really irks me, a lot of these videos are actively going out of their way to make a situation seem worse than it is by compiling issues from others around the net. This gets you attention, views and more importantly advertisement cash! Fan boys for all consoles make the situation worse as it drives this kind of content.

Reggie was asked about the Scratches caused by the dock and said he went back to his guys during all these presentations, events, tours etc to find out if they had experienced it with their units, they haven't.

He doesn't say the issue isn't there but Nintendo need to hear directly to their support to diagnose and fix such issues, when you listen to the vast majority of owners on this thread the issues are at a minimum. We can't mostly be so lucky that our Switch consoles are fine!

Still no scratches on mine, and I have even placed it in the dock carelessly once in the dark without looking properly. Still early days though, give it a few months I suppose.

Does anyone here use their Switch predominantly in the docked/console mode?
That is how I feel that I'd use one, my question is to those that do: Are you happy with how it looks/runs on your TV?

The above is the only thing that is holding me back, the more I read the more it seems that this is better used as a handheld and that it is largely underwhelming when used docked.

I really don't think It'd get used as a handheld at all in my house.
All thoughts/feedback gratefully received
TIA

I've probably only used mine in handheld for a few hours at most. I'd say I am docked about 90% of the time.

For all the rubbish people say about the Switch in docked mode, Zelda still looks fantastic, imo.

It's quickly becoming my favourite platform

Is there any rumours around what resolution and fps Skyrim will play at both docked and undocked?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's 30fps at 900p and 720p.

I use it 99% docked as it's not left the house yet. It's fine, use it like a PS4. I play it with the pro controller and wake it up with the pad, put it sleep with the pad.

I think that would be a fair guess, Bethesda might push it to 1080p docked but I doubt it.

Was looking forward to Skyrim until I played Zelda :)

Same

Occasionally I've played it in handheld mode whilst my girlfriend has been working or watching something crap on TV but 95% has been docked

Also highly recommend the Pro controller as well.
