*** Nintendo Switch ***

Joycons rock solid when docked to the console? Or do they wobble back and forth?

Compared the screen for any colour tinting?

Any gaps in the casing where the front and back join?

Any marks along the edges of the back panel where it buts up against the front edge (mainly around the top vent / along the top of the power and volume buttons?
Done all full check up. Only problem I found from the ones you mention is the right Joy-Con does wobble a little, but nothing that bothers me. I have played with it at least 30 hours in hand held mode and it was not an issue or something that stood out, so unless I make effort to wobble it, it is fine :)

Cheers!

Had a look at RIME and that is a multi-platform game across PS4, XB1 and the switch. Will be interesting to see what the technical difference is between the Switch and the other's versions. If we see completely different games I'll find that somewhat disappointing. However, if the switch ran at 720p and low detail compared to high 1080p of the others (not sure they actually do this) then that is really quite exciting.
Its 720p when handheld but 1080p when docked. Just so you're aware :)

This may be a video that most folks on here will write off... but then that just proves the last thing that's discussed on the video. I know some folks here appear to be very intolerant of any negative news related to the Switch. Keep in mind that this is just news (and a rumour).

TLDR:
1) Nintendo Switch has stock Tegra X1, exactly the same as Nvidia Shield. Not a custom X1 like rumours mentioned beforehand.
2) Nintendo is doing big things for E3 this year... just a rumour but it includes potential Metroid Prime 4, due to teasers by the development team.
3) SuperMetalDave, major active player in the rumour roundups for Switch before release takes a break due to negative news regarding Switch and Nintendo. One of his points was that Nintendo fans accepted everything that Nintendo are doing.

My thoughts:
Firstly, I kinda expected this to be the case for Switch hardware. I'm with SMD that the Switch is by no means a bad system. It's an amazing handheld, even more so with USB-C battery banks and it's many features, things that you couldn't do with 3DS. But he's always harped on about the importance of true 3rd party support and concerns about repeating the WiiU's mistakes. The Tegra X1 reveal does make it sound like Nintendo rushed the actual hardware side of things and focused on other aspects like the switch between docked/portable mode and the Joyconn's etc.

The Metroid Prime 4 rumours are good but one must wonder when it will release and what other games will release before then. If it's a launch for this year like Mario Odyssey, then I am even more excited for it. Hopefully they do a proper console bundle with this game, cos if they do, I will pre-order the heck out of it. And possibly pick up Mario Kart 8 Deluxe alongside it (no point buying Zelda when I already have it on WiiU and saves can't be transferred between versions).

The final point also rubs me the wrong way a bit too. He's right on a good many fronts, Nintendo still has issues. Ignoring the Switch, they are still evil when it comes to Youtube, I've heard of people's One-Two Switch videos being claimed by Nintendo and we all know how that game is mostly an off-screen experience. And bringing it back to Switch, the accessory pricing is just ridiculous. The dock, a piece of plastic with a few ports and proprietary USB-C to HDMI conversion seems to be the worst culprit IMO.

But what I really don't get that he said, was all the 'negative' news regarding the Switch. Is it really that bad, cos I for one have heard very little negative about the Switch. Again, it may be because I've gotten most of my Switch news from places like the Switch subreddit, which are potentially biased towards positive news. But otherwise, besides the Joyconn issue and screen-protector thingy, there's not much bad I've heard Switchwise. Seeing 3DS adverts on Switch release day also felt like Nintendo wasn't doing things right. And as far as I hear, most folks don't like the idea of paid online for Switch.

His desire to portray only positive news also rubs me wrong. Claiming that he doesn't want to say bad things about Nintendo, when his recent videos have mostly been positive about Nintendo and Switch. Surely it would be a good thing to continue with the news no matter what and be a source of honest info. Then we might be able to find out about these negative things he's been reluctant to mention.

Regardless, it's just more news on Switch and Switch related things. I'm personally not excited for E3, because I feel let down by Nintendo's past few E3s. They're going to need a miracle for me to get excited for this E3. By which I mean a lot of new game reveals for the Switch.

What difference does it make what's inside the Switch?

If it's good enough for portable games like Zelda BotW then it's good enough for me. Gaming is about the games, and I don't see the Switch hardware holding back many game ideas.

Game dependant, Zelda runs at 900p
Ah sorry, my bad. Was rushing when posting that!

Yes game dependant. MK8D is 1080p 60fps for example.

I think in the future that Zelda might get another patch to improve performance again. They were working on the game right up until the last minute. So I'd bet they're refining, bug fixing etc for the Switch and the patch it again at some point.

I was talking about the PS4 pro and XB1. Although, it looks as though these might be approaching 4k now.

Just watched the SMD video. Aside from his comments about the negative feedback (tbh he sounds butthurt, but there you go) the one thing that really grinded me and made me think the guy has no idea about what he's saying

"They clearly threw the switch together in a year"

"It's obvious" "you could make this in a year, easily"

"No way they were working on it since 2013 like iwata said"

I'm sorry...Rant incoming. Unless they inner knowledge of the workings inside nintendo, which they won't as everyone will have signed NDA's and the lips of Nintendo employees are tighter than those of a celebate nun. They simply do NOT know.

They can make best guesses. Assumptions, and whatever else....But they don't know. This is why using terms like he did makes me want to bin off the video right away.

Secondly, anyone with proper project management experience knows that this stuff takes a lot of time.

Personally I've never worked in hardware development. But I've PM'd in software development projects. And even with the best developers...Jesus these things take time!

This isn't me being defensive of Nintendo btw. I am fed up with these armchair experts. Grinds my gears.

And breathe :p

A few times playing BOTW docked recently the game practically 'froze' for a split second when stuff was kicking off - as in, frame rate to practically nil. Some of the worst slowdown I've seen actually, in recent times, but as it's rare / infrequent it doesn't bother me - but I did notice it.

No problems in portable mode but then I didn't do the same areas.

I've had a lot of slow down, but it's pretty rare. And I don't mind too much, as the rest of the game is so bloody good!

Having a blast with the switch right now, i use it as a handheld primarily and just the other day it came in handy. I was playing in docked mode and i got a call offering me to go out with a friend, so i went out took it with me in my backpack. (I really need a carrying case)

Showed my mate the Switch he immediately said "What is that!?!?!" 20 mins later he was still on it :D He was quite impressed and to be honest i didn't think he would like it as he's not a Nintendo guy, as the last system he owned was the n64 because he says the games are "Childish" on the wii etc.

He's willing to pick one up when more games come out and as soon as i told him about portable Skyrim coming later this year his face lit up.

Only thing he didn't like was the size of the joycons when they were separated from the tablet, as he's 6ft7 and has huge hands so he wants the pro controller.

Pretty cool that a 20 min impression could convince him to buy one.

Yeah everyone I've shown has been impressed with the graphics too on BOTW and then I took the joy cons off and docked the Switch which is now plugged in to my projector for some huge Bomberman 3 player fun!

BTW loving BOTW on the projector when I have the place to myself at night. Would like to buy another dock so I can use the either TV or projector when I like.

Being portable like that it will get a lot of free advertising like that :)

Was thinking one of the things I really like is how you can put it to sleep and resume exactly where you left from instantly.

Are any of you actually going to buy Skyrim? Fair enough if you haven't played it at all yet but i imagine it's hard to find people who haven't played it ( could be wrong of course!)

Not one for me, tried it a load of times on pc and just find it to be rather over rated imo

I'm a mug, I'll likely buy Skyrim, and most other titles at full price. I'm a HUGE Skyrim fan and knowing that I can create a new adventure whilst on the train just excites me :)

Another key thing is I'm moving to California in several months and the console isn't region bound. Another huge plus for me.

I'm in the same mind, I couldn't care what's on the inside, this is a fantastic handheld gaming console, which it is. A sole living room/tv console? No.

That's a good point, whens the next system update coming? I'd love to see some app support as at the moment, it's literally a device to run Zelda for me lol

Not sure...nobody knows yet. Maybe they'll make it a scheduled thing. Like monthly or something.

Don't forget folks, the Switch has barely been out two weeks! Feels like its been out for ages! :o
