*** Nintendo Switch ***

That's a good point actually. I'll sit on here or Reddit for no real reason. The Switch has took over some of this 'wasted' time now however.

The last Nintendo I bought was the Wii back when that came out, I've not got a Wii U. I am not a huge gamer these days, but the ability to sit on a sofa for an hour and have a play does appeal, as does taking it with me on my business travels for those times when I am bored in a hotel room. I always liked the Mario platformers/kart games from the SNES and N64, Goldeneye of course was an epic and a few others over the years, like Metroid on the Game Cube thingy, Pilot Wings. These are probably the only games I played at length on a console, bar some shooting game on the Xbox some years back, due to Tax Evader on here getting me into it, that was ace. I just like shiny new stuff but have been good of late not wasting money on stuff I don't use, but the evil dark devil of shiny stuff is calling me with this one.

I don't have masses of time for gaming anymore but I'm finding flights and boring hotel stays flying by with zelda in hand. I don't get around to playing games when at home very much but having something that can be used when travelling that isn't rubbish is great. I've never bothered with zelda games before but it's very good. Definitive mario kart out shortly as well and a great looking mario game later in the year.

Downloading the new Bomberman patch now. Very excited they really have made a lot of effort improving this. Think it may run in 60fps too.

Sent my left grey joy con off for repair, although it has never been that bad it definitely has issues compared to the right one which seems to have a 100% rock solid connection at all times, so have reserved a Neon pair with the snipperclips code for £69.99 at Argos to collect later.

Really need to remove my screen protector and put a new one on, manage to trap quite a few bits of dust which become very visible on light backgrounds.

Fast RMX got a patch the other day, there's now a Time Trial mode and you can specifically choose to race online against "friends" only now if you wish.

So are we going to have an official MK8D thread or what? Surely we need to get some races going amongst ourselves :D

Shotgun yoshi and last place.

You are right, I saw the phrase 'portable gaming being killed by smartphones' and I think the word gaming and smartphone in the same sentence sent shivers down my spine. But it is a fair point that the distraction of internet browsing can be enough to keep people from feeling the need to game. Though for me personally, I recently realized (when I temporarily had no books to read on my Kindle) that I would be scrounging for any old crap to browse on my phone just to help pass time rather than actually be interested in looking at something (obviously this is not the case for everyone, but for me I have plenty of opportunity to browse the internet at a desktop, so have no actual need to do so 'on the go'). So I really would have appreciated having a portable gaming system.

Why smartphones are replacing handhelds is simple, it's not because smartphones are replacing handheld/console style gaming, it's more like, think back to the early 00s. You have a long bus/train/plane ride, or you don't eat enough fibre and spend too much time on the toilet. You could play snake on your Nokia tankphone, you could read a book or you could play a game on a handheld. Handhelds were a good option, smartphones aren't a better gaming option, but you don't have to game while travelling or on the toilet, it was just one of very few things you could really do conveniently. Due to smartphones you can now check your e-mail, surf the web, watch a tv show or movie, listen to music, or play some pretty basic games that are still significantly more complex than snake.

It's not that smartphones are equally good gaming devices, it's that because everyone has a smartphone, we carry with so many options to pass the time that carrying around a fairly large and heavy second device purely for gaming is actually significantly less convenient.

Ultimately when it comes to gaming, handhelds offer a significantly worse experience than a console/PC. So now with so many more options thanks to smartphones, why not dedicate your time gaming to a comfy sofa or chair and a nice screen/monitor, with better sound, no interruptions, no stopping and starting the game constantly, better graphics etc, just a far better experience, and do something else while travelling around.

That is why smartphones are replacing handhelds, it's not just about gaming.

Realised I'd not pre ordered Mario Kart. £40 from Amazon (was £42 then some £2 promotion added at checkout for some reason). I think that's very good value and I have it on the WiiU. I cannot wait to play this next Friday and Tetris online too!

Who else is getting Puyo Puyo Tetris this week? I have Mario Kart coming but with Puyo Puyo Tetris is still £30, it was £25 at one stage while the over version are about £17.99 I might hold off for abit or buy digital from the US Eshop which is about £23 after conversion.

Also Nintendo have knocked the Pro Controller down to £59.99 now, still dame expensive.

Mario Kart can't come quick enough.

At just over 100 hours I have 30 hearts, 2 stamina wheels and all the armour and weapons I want in Breath of the Wild. Not touched the Switch in about 2 weeks now.

I did the same i believe it was amazon prime discount fingers crossed it arrives on Friday and the online servers hold up.

The Bomberman patch some are saying makes the game from average to actually quite good. Misses loves it and it's a winner multiplayer. Some serious hours lost to it on the SNES. Have got the Snipperclips bundle neon Joy Cons for my birthday, Mario Kart on its way.

Does Fast RMX warrant a purchase over the Wii U version? Got it on the Wii U, but not buying something without significant improvements.
