*** Nintendo Switch ***

We have an office in Geneva. I have seen some of the invoices for work there.

That would be my main complaint :p

I used to be a big Nintendo guy, lost interest around the Wii era because it seemed to me a lot of BS games came out for it. Though will admit Skyward sword was awesome, the problem is I enjoyed using the Motion+ for it so much, that when I tried to play Twilight Princess, it just didn't feel satisfying.

For Nintendo to have my interest they need:
HD@60fps (I don't give a crap about 4k)
Zelda (though without motion control I don't think I care so much)
Starfox
Metroid
Secret of Mana!! (ok this is an unrealistic dream but the game was amazing!)
A game of Golden Eye/Perfect Dark standard
Some kind of original more adult stylized games (Assassin's Creed/Gears of War/Metal Gear Solid etc. but you know, unique to Nintendo - all the cutesy stuff is well and good but fat plumbers and big gorillas is not all they can do)

Access to the real classics:
Balloon Fight
Probotector
Ikari Warriors

Though I will admit, for the most part I do think that maybe I have sjsut fallen out of love with console gaming. I own a PC, and have no interest in PS/Xbox, so it is not like it is just Nintendo that hasn't tempted me over the years.

Maybe they're happy, but gamers, for the most part, haven't been. However you cut it, the WiiU bombed hard.

You know what would have excited me more than any amount of Zelda and Mario footage during the Switch reveal? - a new Pilot Wings. An F-Zero. A new 1080. A proper, flagship StarFox. And, just perhaps, something new! You say they never stopped being great, but they were great because they consistently came out with great new stuff. New IP after new IP. That's what's changed.

TBH I'm not sure those franchises warrant new full-priced releases. They offer arcade-like experiences more commonly associated today with cheap indie releases and smartphone games. I'm struggling to see how they could deliver value at £40 (or, in the case of the Switch, £60).

Starfox would be the exception, but time and again Nintendo have demonstrated that they have no idea what they're doing with that franchise. It's probably their most bungled one, with them failing to get it right every time they release a new game. I'm not sure I actually want to see them balls it up again.

I'd love to see Nintendo try something new again though. The GameCube had some cracking attempts, with Eternal Darkness and Geist being real highlights. Completely out of Nintendo's comfort zone, yet they delivered something great.

That's it. The people in this thread aren't asking for 3rd party support so they can play EA games - they're asking for it because they want the console to be a success.

Totally agree, I might not want to play COD but a lot of people do.

I do like Fifa though and have '17 on XB1, although if they did a decent version of '18 I'd prefer to get it on Switch so I could play when on the move/travelling.

Rumour unfortunately is it'll be a rubbish "Legacy" version like on the 360, I had a Legacy version on the Vita some years ago, was basically a patch to update a couple of leagues, players and some kits, mental they charge full price for it (and more mental we pay it!).

They're every bit as worthy Mario Kart (most arguably more involved) and would be well suited to home and mobile play. Did you play these games? They can't be compared to cheap indie and mobile titles. Re. Starfox - Nintendo nailed it every time they didn't palm it off to someone else.

Pilot Wings on 3DS was crap, Starfox on Wii U was poor (admittedly I only played the demo).

F-Zero would be nice but the FAST series might well scratch that itch.

If Nintendo could make a non-gimmicky Starfox title, that'd be great.
Just make a shinier version similar to Lylat Wars and people would be happy.

Attempting to reinvent the wheel hasn't been doing so well for them.

Agreed. Pilot Wings Resort was an insult - Nintendo shoe horned into the island from Wii Sports and showed it zero respect or attention. Star Fox they palmed off to Platinum, just like they did with Rare and Namco before that. When these were flagship, Nintendo developed games, they were great. And this is my point - Nintendo neglecting their IPs while also not developing new ones. F-Zero is baddass as was 1080. I'd love a decent multiplayer 1080 on the Switch!

Re: re-inventing the wheel.

Being stuck in the past isn't working either. People have such fond memories of the golden years of the snes and N64 but the world has moved on and gaming is a lot more sophisticated now (not saying it's necessarily better). Simply remaking Pilotwings into a modern game would be so difficult; you don't want it to be the same as it used to be but then again, you do.

The recent Mario reveal had half the people saying 'wow that looks great' and half saying 'wtf did you do to Mario?'

I think they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. I also think they're a bit confused as to what they think people want and the reveal last week showed that a bit. A great Zelda showing for the traditional fans followed by some weird cow milking **** to appease the wii crowd. I was both excited and dismayed by it all tbh.

Fingers crossed it does well because the whole idea of the console is a great one and I still have my eye on it but I will wait and not get day one.

The weird cow milking thing...have you been to Japan?

Can see that being a huge hit there.

I'm being serious!
