No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

£19.99 on steam, you may as well give it a go and refund it within 2 hours if it's not your thing. It's probably difficult to get a grip on it within that time but should be enough to know if it's something you'll play.

That's what I did, and haven't put it down since.
Just be prepared, the first 5 minutes will be brutal :D, get past the initial learning of the mechanics and your off.

I traded in my multi-tool when I got to my first space station for what was a better one based on the dialogue but the mining tool seems to have half the life at most of the previous one. I'm constantly having to recharge it which I need carbon for, but I can't mine carbon if my mining tool is empty. I don't know whether to start again. Mine also has a lot of broken components that I guess will be useful for later in the game but are pretty useless right now.

You can "mine" using melee as a desperate measure, plants that are carbon based are fairly easily mined by just whacking them to top up an empty mining tool

Ah good to know thanks. Will save me from needlessly wasting carbon especially now I'm getting asked to build a base but need carbon for that too.

So, I'm kind of at a point now where I'm thinking my enjoyment has dropped off.

I've been to 7 systems, I have a full fleet, I've done a load of quests... but now what?

I still feel for all the initial wonder, somewhat detached to it all, like I don't actually matter. It's a weird feeling playing this game!

Bought it for 50% off, this so good! I’m very surprised given the general internet hate forwards it, I’m really really enjoying it. It’s screaming out VR support though!

I'm much the same, its definitely , DEFINITELY, better than it was at release, better than its been at any point really. But even so, after giving it a good hammering I still found myself bored after several planets. It all feels very samey after a while and I still feel that the procedurally generated aspect of it is as much a curse as a boon. Someone mentioned Subnautica earlier in the thread, despite the effort HG have put into this now (and respect to them for not running), Subnautica still wipes the floor with this imo as a game.

I never played the release, Next is my first stab. It's a blast initially but my interest has dropped off a cliff.

It is however making me want something similar, I've eyeing X3 because that has a living universe - but it's so complex and a bit dated. NMS has certainly got the visual flourish down to an art.

Well they have certainly turned it around with this update.. 82k current players as I write this. I just wish my game wasn't crashing regularly after the last patch. Very annoying:P

Was only 60k when I looked earlier.

Luckily found a safe planet, and some artifacts so learning a lot of words now.

Do mods block multiplayer? I havent seen any one type or talk in ages now.. I selected the "allow players to join you" option at the top during the start.

Can’t you just fly around now and visit different planets? Or do you need to find or make fuel in order to fly?

Well, it's bigger and better looking than my current and I don't have much.

Also if anyone's able to trade some chromatic metal and condensed carbon I would appreciate that. I have a lot to trade back if you can meet me.

https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/637 This is nice, asteroid density reduction and increases the draw distance.

I'm not sure what the standing is with this game and modding, after all it is an online multiplayer and the files are being changed. Last thing we'd want is a VAC ban on a steam account. Doesn't really matter it's just a visual mod, there's no difference doing that and for argument sake changing damage on weapons and never over heating. I'd be very careful at the moment

Alright then.. Not sure why they'd be a whole modding discord, and a Nexus site and another no mans sky mods site if it would risk VAC bans. I can see your point though.

I find it totally weird as well mate. Since when has multiplayer games allowed us to mod lol. We need some sort of clarification because the way it is at the moment, it's just opening the doors for cheaters surely.

I'm going to see if we can get some clarification on it.
