No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

Found a nice little way to farm Larval (somewhat safer) use terra tool and carve the ground around it. Then shoot and egg or two in the first area inside the carved out area, move over to another egg area and farm there as all the alien creatures get trapped back where you terraformed around the initial egg mound.

I'm not sure what the standing is with this game and modding, after all it is an online multiplayer and the files are being changed. Last thing we'd want is a VAC ban on a steam account. Doesn't really matter it's just a visual mod, there's no difference doing that and for argument sake changing damage on weapons and never over heating. I'd be very careful at the moment

I think they would have made it clear that the did not want modding if it was not for the following.

You have to create a separate mod folder within the file directory in order to add mods. It gives you a warning that mods are installed and do you wish to continue on start up, you have to remove a disablemods.txt file for them to work. Reinstalling that file, well does what it’s says..

Also

The DISABLEMODS.txt file telling you how to install mods

And

The patch notes in full:

  • Following reports of some people experiencing issues with the game while unsupported mods are installed, we’ve added mod detection which will show a warning screen on loading when mods are detected. A mouse click or button press will dismiss this screen. We have also introduced a new method for mod installation which should prevent player’s games from breaking when a new update is released. For details please see the ‘DISABLEMODS.TXT’ file in the \GAMEDATA\PCBANKS folder.

@Strudders yep I get that, I’ve over 300 hours playing the game and used to have dozens of mods running before NEXT. But now it’s an MP game and open to pvp and griefers, is it ok to mod the game to get 999,999,999 credits with all best ships and weapons plus damage multis and never overheat mods to go on a pvp griefing session?

That’s my point here.

I get what you are saying but just pointing out that whilst they do not officially support modding they have specifically put in place a method to mod.

I am sure if they did not want them to be used, then they would have removed the function that allows mods to work.

That method allows mods to be loaded in and overwrite the vanilla game files.

As I said I do understand your point form a griefing perspective and I am sure that at some point they should/will implement a way to disable mod's online

However being cautious is the watch word as you have pointed out but for those of us who do not wish to go online, the mechanism is still there to be used.

Finally decided to pick this up after all the positive comments.

I'm sure it's been asked before (but it's a long thread). Trying to decide between normal and survival. I definitely want a challenge but ready survival can be overly grindy, though worried if I pick normal it will be too easy?

I've tried starting a few games on survival and quickly failed, though I don't want to give up that easily.

Spoke to Architect on the modding stance, and according to him, regarding VAC's, there is no issue. Touch wood maybe but he knows a lot.

Lovely person in the modding discord call me a "dum dum" because I didn't know VAC's are only for Valve games.. well sorry for not knowing something.. christ. Left that discord quick as. Sod being in there for any more time, fed up with people being like that.

Survival all the way, I never started a Normal mode game.
Just know that your exo inventory is wiped if you die on foot, and your ship inventory gets wiped if you die in the ship. but credits earned, blueprints etc all remain.

Don't jump too high with the Jet pack, that's a nasty way to die on Survival....
I keep some sodium and oxygen on the ship now, so if/when I wipe it's not a rough start to survive again.

Oh and build a manual save box thingy as soon as you can and keep that updated. As a roll back point.

There are some amazing crafting recipes. Some can net tens to hundreds of millions very quickly.

4.30am I played this to. Has been a long time since I have been hooked this long.

I have picked up a few items worth a lot but the NPC don't seem to ever have enough money to buy them from me.
Like the green marked ancient treasure stuff.

How do I offload it, as if I die, I'm going too loose it anyway.

Don’t have enough money? Because it goes red? Just sell it anyway or go to a terminal in a space station.

Would just like to apologise for the modding thing and going off on some people, just not doing great atm, don't take it personally.

I'll have a hunt for those recipes and see what I can find, thanks.

Well I would go back and tell them Yo mama is a dum dum for having you!
There are loads of non Valve games on steam using VAC

COD
Dying Light
Rust
ARK
blah blah blah....

So the risk is always real if VAC is installed on the game.

So it sound like it's worth a punt now at £19.99 on Steam. Or are folk just getting caught up in the hype for a update that's made it halfway playable? What would you rate it out of 10? (before I push the button):)
